Super Scientists! Week 6

This week in Year 1, we’ve had an exciting time learning all about materials in science. We’ve been little scientists, investigating and experimenting to discover more about the world around us!

On Monday, we started by identifying different materials like wood, metal, glass, and plastic. We sorted everyday objects into groups and learned about how these materials are made and their properties, such as being strong, bendy, or transparent.

Tuesday was all about adventure as we went on a materials hunt around our classroom! We spotted lots of materials and discussed why certain objects are made from specific materials.

Wednesday got even more exciting when we helped Aneesha the vet! She needed our help to find the best material to make an absorbent vet bed for her animals. We tested different materials to see which ones soaked up water the best and had lots of fun making predictions.

On Thursday, a very angry wizard wrote to us with a big problem - his spell book got wet! He needed a waterproof cover to protect it. We worked together, testing materials to see which ones were waterproof and which weren’t. We also made sure our experiments were fair and carefully recorded our findings.

A highlight from Maths this week was when we solved a tricky puzzle to complete a missing jigsaw on a 50 grid. The children worked hard to figure out which numbers came before or after a given number – amazing teamwork and problem-solving!

This week has definitely confirmed how much we LOVE science and a challenge! Well done everyone 🧪🥼🔬.
