This week the children are beginning to learn about The Great Fire of London and they have been fascinated about finding out about the past. We explored that in the 17th century there was a great fire in London and most of the city was destroyed. The children located where London was on the map of the UK and we compared maps from past to present. Children also looked at picture cards of old London and compared them to modern London, discussing similarities and differences.

After looking at the images of old and modern London the children drew pictures of what was still the same and what was different. We looked at timeline cards, cut them out and put them in the correct order from earliest to latest.

The children also looked at images of The Great Fire of London, and choose a scene from the image to act out. I was really impressed with their role play and I think you’ll agree that they used so much expression to relate to how the people might be feeling at that time.

The children have also been very creative this week making a Great Fire of London display. We thought about how London would have looked in 1666, with narrow packed timber framed houses, muddy roads with horse drawn carts and rivers filled with boats, ferries and cargo ships,
