Personally, I have selective eating habits that make it hard to try new things other than the same typical meal options that started in my younger years. This can occur amongst people from the smell, look and texture of different foods which can teeter one’s judgement prior to even trying.
A study was conducted with both parents and their children present in order to construct Yumi Tumi. When surveying and interviewing over 100 people consisting of parents, caretakers and guardians who had concerns about the children's intakes. There were two surveys: one tailored directly to the parents about how picky they believe their children are, another focused on asking the children what they typically eat on a daily basis. In the survey, about half of the parents believed their child was picky when in reality more than 70% of their children showed signs under the picky eating spectrum and 10% showed serious issues of not complying with any change to their habits.
Yumi Tumi entertains a child by guiding them to prepping their own meals. Children can pick and choose what they would like in a balanced meal consisting of the main food groups: fruits, vegetables, dairy, grains, and protein.
