Love's Labour's Lost Character guide

Alphabetical by Actors' Last Name

King Ferdinand of Navarre played by Nate Burger

The Young King of Navarre and friend of Berowne, Dumaine, and Longaville. Wants to get his pals in on the edict to get serious about studying for 3 solid years in an attempt to become better men and be famous for their intellect. Almost immediately breaks his oath and falls for the Princess.

Costard, A Groundskeeper played by Jeb Burris

In our production, a clownish custodian at the university. He is caught with Jaquenetta in the park by Armado after the edict has been declared that no man shall speak to a woman. His punishment does not last very long, and he is employed to deliver letters that he mixes up and delivers to the wrong people.

Moth, Armado's Page played by Matthew Benenson Cruz

An apprentice and student of Don Armado.

Jaquenetta, A Gardner played by Gabriela Castillo

The only woman allowed to stay at the court. Unlike the other women in the play, she is not royalty or a member of the court. In our production, she works for the university and tends the gardens. Her privilege lies in her ability to enjoy her freedom when it comes to love and who she spends her time with.

Nathaniel, A Curate played by David Daniel (right)

The parish curate. He is quite impressed with the intelligence and verbal athleticism of his friend and colleague Holofernes.

Boyet, Attendant of the Princess played by Sarah Day

A chaperone to the Princess and her companions. She was sent by the King of France to accompany his daughter on this mission while perhaps having a motivation to help her in her love match at the same time.

The Princess of France played by Phoebe González

The young Princess of France, she is ostensibly sent to the King of Navarre in order to negotiate an old land deal on behalf of her father, but upon arrival, has a romantic connection with the King.

Longaville, Lord & friend of the King played by Jamal James

Friend and confidante of the King. In our production, the organized and tall one of the group. Almost immediately breaks his oath by falling for Maria.

Dull, A Constable played by Josh Krause (right)

A constable, and, in our production, the campus security guard. He uses simple words in contrast to the fancy poetic language used by some other characters.

Maria, Lady & friend of the Princess played by Samantha Newcomb

Another companion of the Princess of France. In our production, very excited to be on an adventure, and is down for anything. She met Longaville at a wedding previously and knows he is a friend of the King.

Rosaline, Lady & friend of the Princess played by Melisa Pereyra

Rosaline is a witty and intelligent lady and companion of the Princess of France. She knows Berowne by reputation, and has also met and danced with him before.

Holofernes, A Scholar played by James Ridge

A teacher, and in our production, a professor at the university. Perhaps the greatest lover of language and words in the play. His greatest strength also proves his greatest weakness when his manner of speaking is afflicted with the need to offer several separate words to explain one concept.

Dumaine, Lord & friend of the King played by Ronald Román-Meléndez

Friend and confidant of the King. In our production, the youngest and most gullible in the group. Almost immediately breaks his oath by falling for Katherine.

Don Armado, A Knight & Professor played Triney Sandoval

Don Adriano de Armado is a Spanish braggart and traveller. In our production, a PE teacher. He is in love with Jaquenetta and is also major lover of language, using lots of words at a time to say one thing.

Berowne, Lord & friend of the King played by Marcus Truschinski

Friend and confidante of the King. The most hesitant to agree to signing the oath. A ring leader of the group and lover of language. Has a reputation for using his words to make jokes and talk himself out of situations. Almost immediately breaks his oath by falling for Rosaline.

Katherine, Lady & friend of the Princess played by Jennifer Vosters

Another companion of the Princess of France. In our production, the least graceful and most hesitant to do so many outdoor activities. She met Dumaine at a party once and is curious and excited to see him again.

Marcade, Messenger of France played by Nancy Rodriguez

A messenger.
