Well, it looks like our great run of weather over the last couple of weeks is now over. We have packed a lot in while the weather has been nice outside, so it is a full newsletter today.

Over our last few newsletters, I have explained our vision and each of our values. Some of you were at our community evenings last year, where we shared these values and were gathering your ideas on what we should focus on developing in our school that reflected these values. These workshops resulted in a strategic goal being set under each value. The strategic goals for Nukumea Primary School are shown below:

The leadership team and Board then set some initiatives for our team to work on under each of these goals for 2023. This action plan is shared and progress discussed at each of our Board meetings. We are now at the point of starting to look ahead to 2024. This means that early next term, we will be looking to hear your ideas as our community, for what actions the school should look to take under each of these goals in 2024.

Progress on our new buildings continues and we are looking at a likely completion date at the end of Term 3. Discussions are ongoing between the Establishment Board and Ministry of Education, but we are planning towards our first day operating in the new buildings at the start of Term 4. Below are some photos taken this week to show you the progress.

Inside one of the learning areas downstairs. When we move in later this year, we will be using these downstairs learning spaces for our classes.

The asphalt has been spread on the courts this week. One of these will be set up with netball hoops and one with basketball hoops.

The Hall is making progress as well, but currently is also storage for a lot of carpet tiles!

The Reception space where Joyce/Mrs O will be waiting to greet you.

Our library gets a LOT of natural light pouring in.

If you have noticed the diggers on the field this week, they have been digging out the bike track for concrete to be poured.

Board Meeting Dates This Term

  • Tuesday June 27th

The meetings are at school and run from 5:30-7:30pm. Please feel free to come along and if you have any questions about this, please talk to Steve at school or email him on stevem@nukumea.school.nz

Our road safety signs are now up on Celestial Crescent asking traffic to slow down and giving a safe crossing point for our families when walking to and from school. A special thanks to Zoe Turner from Ray White Orewa for providing the stakes and extra signs. Make sure you all check out Martina's artwork that was chosen by the students as our crossing sign!

The third core principle of The Resilience Project is Mindfulness.

Working on mindfulness gives us opportunities to develop our ability to pay attention to the present moment and our thoughts. Practising mindfulness daily can help us stay focused on set tasks and reduce stress and anxiety.

Our Term 3 concept is 'Communication'. The first step of our inquiry cycle is called 'Framing the Inquiry', which is where we share the understanding of our concept with our students and our school community, to help decide the context the learning will be framed around. We would love for you to talk about this with your child and share your ideas around this concept by filling in this form. The refreshed curriculum focuses on the importance of learning across curriculum areas contributing to the lives of ākonga and their vision of a thriving community as it has personal, participatory, pathways and planetary value. We consider all these values when planning the context of each inquiry cycle.

A reminder that the Learning Content on Hero will be turned off from next week. This is to allow teachers to populate the report page with comments and progress charts. Students who have NOT had 10 weeks at school (this affects our new entrant students) will not be receiving a progress report. This is because they haven't been at school long enough to meet the progress benchmarks. All our new entrant students have a 10 week meeting with their whānau teacher where teachers will comment on our transition to school goals. Three-way Learning Conferences will be happening early in Term 3, which is an opportunity for teachers, students and whānau to meet to discuss student progress as outlined in the report. Therefore, any student who did not receive a mid year progress report will not require a conference.

Less than two weeks to go until our Matariki Celebration. If you haven't done so already, a gentle reminder to please complete the Google Form below as soon as possible. Thank you!
