Discussion Time

This week we had a lovely time exploring what makes certain people special In different religions. We started by looking at the Christmas story and talked about how Christian’s believe Jesus was no ordinary baby but someone very special to them.

Next we learned about Guru Nanak and why Sikh’s believe he was special right from birth. The children enjoyed comparing this with Jesus, as both were seen as special from the moment they were born.

We then looked at the Hindu story about a child named Krishna and how he was also seen being important at a very young age because of his bravery.

Finally, we talked about why Muhammad is seen as special in Islam and how he was known for being kind and honest from when he was a young child. In all of the stories we learned about this week, the children noticed that they all showed the person as being special because they helped others or had a big impact on their communities.

The children really enjoyed their weekly maths challenge to see how many different ways they could break up seven cubes. The children began by experimenting before jotting down their ideas. Once they had tackled seven cubes they added more cubes and repeated the activity. It was great to see so much mathematical reasoning.
