The Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction (CITI) Faculty Fellows Program is designed for WSSU faculty to serve in the discipline of faculty development, teaching and learning methodologies, pedagogical leadership, and technological innovation. The ideal CITI Faculty Fellow must have an interest in faculty development, teaching, learning, online instruction, digital literacy, technology integration, and learning new innovations in collegiate instruction. The ideal candidate must have strong interpersonal skills, a record of effective teaching, evidence of coaching and mentoring and demonstrated strategic thinking relevant to assisting other faculty with professional development.
Literacy and Creativity in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
Join Adobe on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 11:00 AM to hear a discussion about the controversial and rapidly developing impact of generative AI in education — as prompted by the recent explosion of ChatGPT in student writing. The two Café guests are college writing professors with PhDs and textbooks on the subject. Both guests have published in a variety of modes and genres beyond academics, including filmmaking, photography, novels, screenwriting, and magazines. In this Digital Literacy Café session, we will:
- Explore best practices to promote academic integrity and student success given the rise of ChatGPT.
- Consider the horizons for all kinds of storytelling through generative AI — looking at photography and film especially.
- Answer your questions in a Q&A session.
📚 Book of the Month
This book proposes a radical restructuring of teaching so that it conforms to how people learn. Spence maintains that teaching cannot and should not be aimed at transferring knowledge from teachers' brains into students' brains. In his words: “Decades of experience have made perfectly clear that this approach frustrates teachers, bores students, and results in minimal learning.”
This is a book that challenges―it will poke and prod your thinking. The author writes near the end of Chapter 4, “I wanted to write a book that asked real questions and explored possible answers. I am not concerned that you agree with my answers or ideas, but I fervently hope the questions I’m raising will lead you to questions about habitual teaching practices and the resulting failure of students to learn.”
Do you have a question about teaching best practices or student learning? Are you interested in designing or re-designing a course? Aligning assessments with course outcomes? Developing measurable learning outcomes? Or strategies to actively engage students? If so, you can request a consultation with a member of the Center for Innovative and Transformative Instruction (CITI).
During the consultation, we will discuss in greater detail what you want to achieve and help you identify the right resources to foster transformative learning experiences in your course.
