The Aquatics department here at Campus Recreation & Wellness is offering several safety classes for students, members, and non-members. The first of these is the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training course. This is a blended learning (part online, part in-person) course that will teach you the fundamentals of administering first aid, as well as how to perform CPR and use an AED. The primary purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Blended Learning program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The course teaches participants the knowledge and skills needed to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and to decide whether advanced medical care is needed.Upon successful completion of this course, you will receive a digital certificate for ARC Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED valid for two years. The schedule and pricing is as follows:
15-Feb 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Course #2 is a Water Safety Instructor Certification Course. The purpose of this blended learning course is to train instructor candidates to teach courses and presentations in the American Red Cross Swimming and Water Safety program including Parent and Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, Learn-to-Swim, Adult Swim, and Private Lessons. There are several prerequisites that must be met in order to take the course. They are as follows:
• Participants must be at least 16 years old on or before the last day of the Instructor Course
• Participants must demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills:
• Swim the following strokes consistent with the Stroke Performance Charts, Level 4:
o Front Crawl – 25 yards
o Back Crawl – 25 yards
o Breaststroke – 25 yards
o Elementary Backstroke – 25 yards
o Sidestroke – 25 yards
o Butterfly – 15 yards
o Maintain position on back for 1 minute in deep water (floating or sculling)
o Tread water for 1 minute

The third course is a Lifeguard Training Course (blended learning) which will provide lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over. The prerequisites, price, and schedule are as follows:
Pre-requisites:
• Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. You may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both, but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
• Tread water for 2 minutes, using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
• Complete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds:
o Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using the front crawl or breaststroke. Your face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
o Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10 pound object.
o Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object

Lastly, we are offering a Lifeguard Training Review Course. Lifeguarding Review classes are designed to update your skills and to renew your current Red Cross Lifeguarding certification valid for another 2 years. Current certification (or expired by 30 days) in Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED is required to participate in the review course.

Pricing for this class varies based on CRW membership status, but ranges from $60-$105.
