Alice Phoebe Lou fills Thalia Hall for first headline performance in Chicago By Dilpreet Raju

Alice Phoebe Lou and fans jammed to old tunes and new numbers, including a fair amount of unreleased material, on May 13 at Thalia Hall.

Lou, who was born and raised in South Africa, called the night a "beautiful milestone." Prior to this show, she had performed in Chicago only once before, at The Vic last October while opening for legendary folk-rock musician Billy Bragg. Her passion for music began 15 years ago, when Lou was 14 and became a fan of trance music. She would go to such festivals in Cape Town, South Africa, as a teenager to photograph audience members, and before long she found her own voice and sound.

Alice Phoebe Lou performs a solo song with her acoustic guitar, strap adorned with a butterfly and crescent moon.
Lou checks out the amplifier's dial settings before starting a song.
Concertgoers take photos as they exit the concert hall space, located upstairs at 1807 S. Allport St.
Lou turns and sways as her bandmates play a slow, melodic outro.
General admission ticket holders watch the band perform a full hour set. Lou told the audience between songs that she would be playing new tunes in favor of older work.
Lou swaps between her electric and acoustic guitars regularly.
Lou smiles as she plays on her olympic white Fender Mustang six string.
Lou closed out the show with hits "Dirty Mouth" and "Witches," two of her more fast-paced songs.
