  • We welcome Emily Ciuffetelli as our attendance clerk and Choice secretary.
  • All attendance and late’s, along with Choice related questions.
  • We thank Michele Deebel for her years of service at Cab Calloway School of the Arts. She now serves at the district office.

Cab Calloway School of the Arts Highlights:

  • We had an amazing four Showstopper Performances.
  • We are grateful for all of the teachers and students who put in hours of preparation for “Evolution”
Instrumental Music: CCSA Spirit Marching Band
  • Congratulations to the CCSA Spirit Marching Band for their consecutive Atlantic Coast Championship.
  • We appreciate the ongoing commitment of our students, staff, Cab Booster Club, parents and Mr. Tharp.
Social Studies: Erin Sullivan
  • Congratulations to Erin Sullivan. The United States Institute of Peace will be presenting Erin Sullivan’s new curriculum at the National Council for the Social Studies annual conference.
  • Three of our Social Studies teachers will be attending the National Council for Social Studies Conference.
  • Here is a picture from the United States Institute of Peace Dialogue on War Legacies and Peace in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. This was a two day conference to convene diplomats, policy makers, advocates and authors to draw lessons from U.S. engagement in Southeast Asia, as we are healing from wartime suffering and building a future based on trust and shared interests.
  • My curriculum focuses on the search for American MIA’s and Vietnamese missing war dead as part of the ongoing reconciliation efforts.
  • Mrs. Sullivan is currently writing curriculum for National History Day and the National Endowment for the Humanities that will be published this spring in a book in which she is excited about her contribution on the topic of Native American boarding schools.
Gabriela Riera
Strings: Gabriela Riera
  • Gabriela was announced as one of the semi-finalists for the national Sphinx Competition, in the junior division (see below).
  • She will be traveling to Detroit for her semi-final and potentially final auditions within the framework of the 26th annual SphinxConnect arts leadership conference in late January 2023.

Arts School Network Conference: “Arts and Academics Unite
  • ASN inspires emerging and seasoned leaders and educators in K-16 arts schools by providing quality resources, support, and networking opportunities to elevate their institutions.
  • We had three art teachers, two academic teachers and the Dean attended the Arts School Network Conference.
  • ASN Conference empowered our school by connecting us regionally, nationally, and internationally to over 180 art organizations in an effort to collaboratively raise the quality, profile, and success of the students whom they serve.
  • The theme was a future so bright you gotta were shades.

Piano: Master Class with Michelle Cann
  • Some of our Piano Majors had the opportunity to participate in a Master Class at the Music School of Delaware with the renown Michelle Cann.
  • Lauded as “technically fearless with…an enormous, rich sound” (La Scena Musicale), pianist Michelle Cann made her orchestral debut at age fourteen and has since performed as a soloist with prominent orchestras such as the Atlanta and Cincinnati symphony orchestras, The Cleveland Orchestra, the New Jersey Symphony, and The Philadelphia Orchestra.

Class of 2023 Seniors
Recap Choice Night
  • TO APPLY: go to www.schoolchoicede.org and create an account. Please use an email address that you check regularly. We advise that you avoid using a Yahoo mail address. Be sure that you have received your confirmation code both on the site and via email.
  • Cab 8th graders wishing to remain at Cab for high school MUST complete a Choice application.
  • Current Cab 8th graders with a cumulative grade of B or above in their art major will NOT be required to complete an assessment and will automatically be placed in the lottery. Current 8th-grade students who desire to switch their art major entering the 9th grade, must complete and pass the assessment process to enter the lottery for the art major of their choice.
  • Current 8th graders with a grade of C or below in their art major WILL need to complete and pass the assessment process to be entered in the lottery.
Showstopper Finale
Student Extracurricular Activities
  • Effective November 28th all students must report to their extra curricular activity by 2:35 PM.
  • Students have until 3:00 PM to wait in the lobby for their ride.
  • The lobby is not for students to loiter for social hour.
  • All students leaving campus must sign in the front office.
  • Attendance will be kept by club advisor or supervising staff.
Bullying and Harassment
  • Our Middle and High School students will continue to receive Social Emotional Learning lessons throughout the school year on topics related to appropriate social interactions with peers and others.
  • Review the below policies with your student.
  • The School Counseling Department post important information regarding volunteering, scholarships, and College Visits.
