Pseudo love SUHANA RAHMAN

Love, a complex emotion that has captivated the human spirit for eons, has existed since the beginning of time until this emotion was masked with unrealistic standards through popular culture such as books and media. From rom coms where the boy gets the girl to steamy romances, the portrayal of love in movies, shows, and books are effortless and perfected. This notion of idealistic love is lethal in which it sets unattainable standards that sets people up for disappointment and heartbreak.

Pseudo love is a collection of scenes that capture romantic notions in a not so romantic way. The images hint the concepts surrounding the issues of idealistic love as they act as misfits in the world of glamorization and hyperreality. The photographs challenge the disillusionment that comes with the romanticized version of love and the harsh realities that can exist behind close doors.

So it goes. When we finally allow our consciousness to separate the worlds between media and reality, we can perceive love as a journey filled with adversity and growth rather than unrealistic perfection.

I am Suhana, a biological sciences major at Brooklyn Technical High School. For me, photography began with painting as I would take photos of my paintings using my dingy digital camera. With time, photography became my gateway to unleashing my ideas through capturing them. Thankfully tisch exposed me to various layers of photography that put me on the path to finding my style as a photographer. I have just started, and I hope to learn and explore more about photography.
