Have you ever found yourself wrestling with a jar of tomato sauce as you prepare a meal, or trying to open a stubborn cap on a mineral water bottle, without success?

Almost everyone has experienced this problem at some point.

I have been suffering from shooting pain in my thumb for the last couple of years, so it was imperative that I find the right tools for my bucket list.

If you have ever broken a finger, imagine having to repeat the pain over and over again and every time you try to open a can or soda bottle or worse, a child-resistant cap; it is excruciating!

Opening any of these is no fun when your fingers are deformed, inflamed, and painful to the touch.

What causes my fingers to hurt? While I don’t have arthritis, and my joints are reasonably fit, my pain comes from inflammation caused by my cancer-fighting anti-hormonal treatment.

However, many factors, such as arthritis, injuries, surgeries, obesity, genetics, and age, can cause joint inflammation or breakdown.

Appliances such as electric can openers, food processors, and mandolins for slicing make life easier.

Built-up handles and grips make utensils easier to grasp and put less stress on finger joints.

Reachers - long-handled tools with a gripping mechanism - can be used to retrieve items stored high or low.

After weeks of research, I found what I think are the best gadgets on the market, able to pop open everything from big sauce jars to small cans with minimal effort.

Still have not found the perfect tool for child-resistant caps, so please send me an email if you have a suggestion.

Do not take much space, and they work great!

Features a rubber-coated gripping tool with openings for four sizes of lids. The largest opening fits nicely around the lid on our tomato sauce jar, but I needed to work to stretch it around a slightly larger lid.

The Robo Twist easily opened every container I tried, from wide-mouthed jars to small ones. It even worked on a big pasta sauce jar.

If you are like me, you may wonder why some jars are so difficult to open despite healthy and strong hands.

The reason is food safety: certain foods, such as tomato sauces and pickles, must be heat-processed and vacuum-sealed to prevent contamination. Since turning the lid requires releasing the pressure holding the seal in place, these jars tend to be the most difficult to open.
