Getting the Pain Off Your Back

Back pain can be hard to live with, and finding the right solution can be just as challenging. We can help!

While spine surgery is an effective treatment for eligible patients, it can be very costly, stressful and time-consuming. With the MySpineHealth bundle program, Vanderbilt Health offers a better way.

What is the MySpineHealth Bundle Program?

This program coordinates and “bundles” all of the services needed for a successful procedure and recovery—all while ensuring appropriate care and a faster return to life and work. The experience is streamlined with the help of personal patient navigator, and health care costs are transparent and predictable.

Who is a good candidate for spine surgery?

Spine surgery might be appropriate if you are struggling with neck or back pain together with other symptoms such as weakness or numbness in your arms or legs, and in some cases problems with bowel or bladder function. If you have tried unsuccessfully to address these symptoms with non-surgical methods in the past, you might be a candidate for spine surgery.

The potential benefits of spine surgery:

  • Less pain in the back and legs
  • Less weakness or numbness in the legs
  • The ability to be more active and gain a better quality of life
  • Improved physical fitness
  • Better mood
  • Increased productivity, including the ability to return to work or other activities

Which surgery is right for me?

This bundle includes coverage of three common and distinct spine procedures:

Cervical Fusion
Lumbar Fusion
Lumbar Laminectomy

Our team will help determine if you are a good candidate for surgery. If you are, one of the following procedures may be recommended.

Cervical or Lumbar Fusion Surgery

This surgery is recommended when your spinal nerves or nerve roots are being squeezed or compressed due to instability in your spine. During a cervical (neck) or lumbar (lower back) fusion, two or more of the bones in your spine are joined together using advanced implants. The fusion is accompanied by techniques to relieve the compression of the spine.

Lumbar Laminectomy Surgery

This surgery is done to remove pressure on the spinal cord, nerves or nerve roots of your lower back. During a lumbar laminectomy, your surgeon will remove a portion of bone covering your spinal canal in the affected area to give those structures more room to work normally.
