Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy Music in Hospitals & Care

Music in Hospitals & Care exists to share the healing power of live music with children and adults who are living with health and wellbeing challenges.
In considering the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in our work, we recognise that music is universal; it breaks down barriers. We work with people from a range of backgrounds, countries and communities. When sharing live music, we aim to reflect people’s tastes and cultures. We also aim to provide opportunities for people to experience a rich diversity of musical traditions.
We believe the pursuit of greater equality and diversity across everything we do offers a creative opportunity to make our work relevant to everyone who needs it. We also see a focus on diversity as an opportunity to create an environment where we understand, recognise, value and respect differences to the benefit of everyone. In this way, we recognise the power music has to transcend barriers, bring communities together and thereby promote social cohesion.

Why is equality, diversity and inclusion important?

1. We believe music is a powerful tool which should be accessible to all.

2. Under-representation of some groups or characteristics across the charity means we are missing out on skills and experience.

3. We want a positive public perception of the charity and our services across a wide range of society.

Commitments

1. We will be fair and comply with the law on discrimination.

2. We will actively seek to enhance our diversity by becoming more representative of the UK population as a whole.

3. We will seek to demonstrate inclusive behaviours.

4 We will adopt an action plan to be reviewed by the Board on an annual basis.
