Headteacher's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I do hope you and your families are keeping well and that you have had a good week.
We have had another pleasing week in school and the children are continuing to work well in lessons and engage fully in their curriculum activities, producing some excellent work. Please see the brilliant 'war poems' later in the newsletter that our pupils completed earlier in November; they are so well written and of a very high standard. Behaviour across School also continues to be good and considering the onset of Advent, this week, we are doing all we can to keep the children focused on their learning through to the final few days of term.
Advent and the preparation for Christmas is always an exciting time at SJV and we have every intention to deliver a range of events, activities and trips to ensure all the children are prepared to celebrate Christmas and have a full understanding of the important messages that Christmas brings. The last week of term is particularly prepared for children to enter into the spirit of fun, which Christmas always brings and I know they all are looking forward to Christmas. Can I remind you please that we break up for Christmas this year on December 16th, at the usual time of 3:15 pm.
We also have a number of important events, which we would like you to consider joining us for. Next Wednesday, 7th December, we invite you to join us for our Christmas Coffee morning from 11am-12noon. The informal event will provide an opportunity for a Christmas visit to school and some refreshments and mince pies. We may also have some carols from the newly formed school choir. Please do look to join us, if you can.
After school on Wednesday we also are hosting the New Build, Public Consultation Meeting from 4.30pm to 7pm. This is an opportunity for the Department for Education and the contractor, Kier Construction to share our proposals for the new build at school. It is a great opportunity to see plans and design, which we know you will be really impressed with. The local community have also been invited to this pre-planning event at school. Again, it would be lovely to see you in School for the consultation.
Our pupil interim reports are now complete and we hope to send these out before the end of next week, providing you with the opportunity to discuss with the class teams any concerns or worries you have that may be identified in the report, before the Christmas break.
I do hope you have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr A Moloney

War poetry interventions
Last week in school pupils took part in some War poetry interventions with SJV 'poet in residence' Mr Lomax. In the poetry workshops students explored the work of a wide range War Poets, and discussed some of the unsung heroes of the conflicts, this inspired them to write some wonderful war poetry of their own . We are very proud to share some of the pupils' amazing responses here, some highly original, moving, and beautiful work from our young poets.
It was an inspiring few hours and a real privilege to work alongside our young people on this important topic.
Our Catholic School
I really love this time of the year as we are about to start the season of Advent. For me it is so full of joy, love, hope and it brings me so much peace. It’s the start of the Church year and as with the rest of the world’s population we are glad of a fresh start! I love the whole season of getting ready and preparing for Christmas and Jesus' birth and the eventual second coming of Jesus.
Out focus for this week in SJV is the importance of Advent and the opportunity we have to prepare ourselves and others for the birth of Jesus. ‘Advent is like a springtime, when everything is renewed and so is fresh and healthy’. Mother Teresa.
Within SJV this week we are looking at God’s message through a quote from Pope Francis;-‘The Lord is coming. May we await him with open hearts?' Our Chaplaincy team helped prepare our Advent launch and our reconciliation services, which is happening next week. It was wonderful to get their input at our Chaplaincy retreat last week; student led liturgy is so important to us at SJV
With RE this week we have been looking at the season of Advent and looking at the symbolism behind the Advent wreath and what each candle means. We have been also making four promises to do during Advent to be extra kind and spread, hope, joy, love and peace.
Mrs Garfin
Have a great weekend everyone.
