A Walk Though the Woods July 15, 2020

Being the middle of the summer, I didn't know what I would find.....

Aside from the unexpected mosquitoes and six foot tall grass, I did find some subjects that photographed.

Some Queen Anne's Lace with a visiting insect

Viper's blugloss

~

Black-eyed susans were in bloom

Crab spider

Long-jawed orb weaver spider

count the eyes
Undentified insect
Thistle
Deadly nightshade

Bread and Butter

~

Woodpecker damage to a dead pine tree

They had drilled right through the base.

Fungus growing on the dead pine tree
more fungus elsewhere
Decaying fungus. They were relatively fresh when we were there on June 24th. (see below)
Appearance as of June 24
The only mushrooms I found. There hadn't been much rain so the ground was quite dry.
Pearl crescent butterfly, milkweed tiger moth(?) and white admiral butterfly.
Yellow-bellied sapsucker. Guessing a juvenile based on loose feathers. There were two of them, at least, flying around
