WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY- 2022 An Initiative by LSD DAV PUBLIC SCHOOL, PILKHUWA

Dear DAVians,

Greetings of the day!

#Only One Earth - The entire universe consists of the sun, the moon, the stars and a beautiful line up of eight planets and we as human beings have been fortunate enough to be born on the one and only life giving and life nourishing planet EARTH 🌏

So let's have our hand in hand and initiate restorative measures to simplify, adorn and embellish our mother earth. Let all of us pledge to be considerate and protective to safeguard our homes !! Just the way we keep our homes clean, in the similar format we need to shift our perspective to a macro level and shield the EARTH.

Our very own green brigade keeps us functional and vigilant regarding the utility of resources in a prudent and holistic way.

The command lies in the hands of youth, the youth of today and tomorrow who believe that life is fulfilled and is worth living in a healthy and positive environment.

A HAPPY ENVIRONMENT DAY TO ALL !!

United Nations Environment Programme-

A Movement that arose in the ’70s

The year 1972 marked a turning point in the development of international environmental politics: the first major conference on environmental issues, convened under the auspices of the United Nations, was held from June 5-16 in Stockholm (Sweden). Known as the Conference on the Human Environment, or the Stockholm Conference, its goal was to forge a basic common outlook on how to address the challenge of preserving and enhancing the human environment.

Also on 15 December, the General Assembly adopted another resolution (A/RES/2997 (XXVII) that led to the creation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the specialized agency on environmental issues.

World Environment Day?

The UN General Assembly had established World Environment Day (WED) in 1972 after discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment during the first day of the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. And it was after two years that the first WED was held with the theme ‘Only One Earth’. Celebrations were held annually from 1974 to mark the day, and then in 1987, it was decided the centre for the activities should be rotated so that different countries can host it.
