Congratulations to BASD School Board Member Dr. Karen Beck Pooley for being this year's recipient of the PSBA Allwein Society Award.

Pennsylvania School Boards Association (PSBA's) Advocacy Manager, Jamie Zurich and CEO Nathan Mains along with the BASD Board of School Directors and Dr. Roy surprised and recognized Dr. Pooley as this year's PSBA Allwein Society award recipient.

The Allwein Society is a recognition program honoring school board members who are outstanding leaders and advocates on behalf of public schools and students. This prestigious honor was created in 2011 in memory of Timothy M. Allwein, a former PSBA staff member who exemplified the integrity, dedication, and commitment to advance political action for the benefit of public education. Tim inspired and helped many others to become successful advocates. Originally called the Allwein Award, the name was changed to Allwein Society in 2018 to reflect the ongoing nature of advocacy work.

********The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District*******

Formerly known as the Bethlehem Area Education Foundation (BAEF), The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District began in March of 1999, after a one-year feasibility study. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of members of the community working in concert with, but independent of the Bethlehem Area School District. To move the Foundation forward, the Board of Trustees amended the bylaws to include paid employees and hired a part-time Executive Director in the fall of 2014. Over the years, the foundation has worked closely with school district administrators to prepare programs and opportunities for funding that will support rigor, relevance and innovation in classrooms throughout the district.
