Tēnā koutou katoa, another two weeks have flown by and it has been great to see the joy on all our learners faces as they get stuck into lots of different learning activities this term. We are going through heavy planning times for the future at the moment as we approach a couple of major milestones in our school's development.
The playground has begun to be constructed this week, which adds to all the signs of getting closer to completion that we can all see from around the fence line.
As more housing finishes in our area and traffic flows increase, it becomes even more important to ensure we are being safe on our way to and from school each day. There are two big initiatives happening at the moment in regards to traffic in our area. The first, is planning ahead by knowing what forms of transport our learners are using to get to school. To that end, we sent out a short survey this morning to gather data about modes of transport to school, and also to start planning for future walking school bus routes. If you missed the survey on Hero, then you can access it here.
The second initiative and far larger in scale, is the wider Katoa, Ka Ora draft speed management plan for Auckland. This plan proposes to set safe and appropriate speeds on approximately 24% of the roads across Tāmaki Makaurau – Auckland, including near our school.
Our surrounding streets have been proposed as a Safe School Zone where all roads will have a permanent speed change to 30km/hr.
You can find a detailed map of the proposed changes and provide general feedback until August 28th 2023 here: https://haveyoursay.at.govt.nz/kko
We have been implementing The Resilience Project’s well-being curriculum at Nukumea. There is a parent and carer hub with videos, podcasts and research on Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness to further support you at home. Check it out here!
