Upcoming Important Dates
- Parent-Teacher Progress Report Conferences will be held on February 1st from 5 - 7 PM.
- 7th Grade Parents/ Guardians of Rising 8th grade (current 7th grade students) High School Info Session will take place Wed., Feb. 1.
- There is no school from Feb. 17 - 24. Happy Mardi Gras!
- 3rd Quarter exams will be held March 3 - 8.
- The 3rd quarter ends on March 9.
- Students are dismissed at noon on March 9 due to a professional development meeting for teachers.
- There is no school for students on March 10. It is a Records Day.
- The Crawfish Boil will be held on March 18.
progress conferences - feb. 1
Parent-Teacher Progress Report Conferences will be held Wednesday, Feb. 1, 5 - 7 PM. The goal is to check in on third quarter grades while there is still time to make an impact. Parents are welcome to meet with any of their child(ren)’s teachers for brief conferences. There is no need to schedule an appointment.
rising 8th grade (current 7th grade) parents/ guardians
On Wednesday, Feb. 1, The Willow School - Marsalis campus will host informational sessions for current 7th grade parents/guardians whose children will be rising 8th graders in the 2023-2024 school year. At the meeting, the High School counselors and administrators will present an overview of the high school program, the scheduling process, and the opportunities along with implications of taking high school Carnegie unit classes as 8th graders.
Two sessions will be available at the Marsalis campus for current 7th grade (rising 8th grade) parents/guardians:
- 6:15pm - 6:45pm
- 7:00pm - 7:30pm

heart and soul week
We celebrated Heart and Soul Week from Jan. 16-20. During this special week, our K - 12 community celebrated the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and honored his legacy. We focused on our school’s core values of kindness, respect, hard work and responsibility.
Morning Meeting During Heart and Soul Week
To celebrate Heart and Soul Week, students wrote Thank You cards and notes to family members and friends each day during Morning Meeting.
Food Drive Benefiting Second Harvest Food Bank
Each day, we collected non-perishable food items. We donated these items to Second Harvest Food Bank. We collected more than 500 pounds of food. Student A. Klump stated, "My favorite part of Heart and Soul Week was the canned food drive because we all came together to give back to people who need it most." Thank you for all of your help with this service project!
Heart and soul recess centers
On Thursday, January 19th, the students participated in Heart and Soul recess centers. Some of the recess centers were obstacle courses, mosaic murals for the message BE KIND and WILLOW, and musical chairs. Thank you to our parent volunteers for creating and supervising our Heart and Soul recess centers. It was such a wonderful day for our students and families.
Prides of Week and Leader of the Pack
Our "Prides" of the Week and our Leader of the Pack are recognized weekly. The "Prides" of the Week are students who exemplify the Project Pride rules. They were nominated by their teachers. The Leader of the Pack is a staff member who is recognized for their dedication and work with our middle school students. Congratulations to this week's "Prides of the Week" and Leader of the Pack.

On Tuesday, Jan. 17, our K- 12 faculty and staff participated in a professional development session focused on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We were led by Maroon, a local business with experts in this field. We left with clarity and the ability to define these terms and envision how we would apply our new knowledge to our daily practice. Thank you to Maroon for facilitating these important discussions with us.
crawfish boil art contest
Mark your calendars - the 2023 Crawfish Boil is March 18!
This year's Crawfish Boil theme is "The Willow School’s 39th Annual Crawfish Boil-2023: Let the Good Times Boil." It's time to start working on entries for the art contest for this year's Boil. The deadline for entries is the end of the school day on Monday, Jan. 30. Below are the rules for students to follow to be sure their drawings make it into the competition.
1. All designs MUST be submitted on plain white paper (not lined).
2. All designs MUST be limited to 4 colors (black and white are considered colors while used in the design, including the background).
3. All designs MUST have the theme "The Willow School’s 39th Annual Crawfish Boil-2023: Let the Good Times Boil” somewhere on the design. It MUST be spelled correctly and the words must be in that order.
4. All designs MUST have the student's name, grade level and homeroom teacher's name on the BACK of the piece of paper.
Entries that do not meet the above criteria will not be considered.
Place submissions in the PTSA mailbox in the office of any campus by the end of school on Monday, Jan. 30.

Our 5th-grade students participated in Market Day. Market Day is a fun, Economics-based project meant to inspire creativity while also giving students a chance to put some of the economics concepts they learned (supply/demand, producer/consumer, specialization) into practice.
