I hope this finds you all well and I hope you have enjoyed a restful summer, despite the poor weather!
We are all looking forward to welcoming learners back to Balwearie tomorrow, including our new S1 learners, who we know will be feeling a mix of emotions at the moment. School staff have spent the last two days working hard to prepare for everyone starting tomorrow.
Over the summer our senior pupils received their SQA results and on the whole, we continue to have very strong results for learners at the school, results that both learners and teachers can be proud of.
Contained within the following communication is some important information about staff who will work with your child at Balwearie, how to communicate with us and some updates on work that took place over the summer.
I encourage you all to follow us on our social media channels, website and school app to keep up to date with all the day to day goings on (links at the bottom of this communication)
I, and the staff at Balwearie, look forward to working with you all over the course of the coming session.
Mr Robertson - Acting Headteacher

Introducing some key people at Balwearie
Our Uniform Policy
We all take pride in the appearance of a school and its pupils. The school uniform does much to enhance the ethos within the school and we hope that parents will support the school by encouraging the wearing of the recommended uniform. More importantly, however, we hope that our pupils will be proud to be identified with Balwearie High School
We also have a school shop with a full stock of uniform to support any family requiring support with the cost of the school day.
Please see the following page on our website for full uniform details - https://www.balweariehigh.co.uk/Parents/Dress-Code
Our Pastoral Support Team
At Balwearie we have four guidance houses, each with two Principal Teachers who are the main pastoral links for learners. You can find out which house your learner is in by checking their form class code.
- G = Grange
- K = Kilrie
- P = Piteadie
- T = Tyrie
Some learners may also link to the Pupil Support Department for more a more targeted level of support.
Some updates to the school that happened over the Summer!
Crush Hall toilets
Over the summer our main school toilets underwent a well needed refurbishment. The significant works started 10 minutes after pupils left the school in June and were completed yesterday. The standard of the previous toilet provision was regularly highlighted as a concern by staff, parents and learners.
Door Security
Over the summer work took place to complete the external door security across the entire school. All our external doors are now operating on timed locks. Doors will open 5 minutes before period bells and lock again 5 minutes after the period bell.
The building will open each morning at 8.30am to allow for access to our breakfast clubs.
During day one, all pupils will be reminded of the movement rules for the school via year group assemblies.
J-Block Roof Repairs
Over the course of the summer contractors have been carrying out repairs to the roof of J-Block. This work will continue over the course of the term with some scaffolding remaining on site. Pupils will be reminded of safe movement during our year group assemblies.
