tornados touch down
Several tornadoes struck central Georgia on January 12, leaving destruction in their wake. Over 27,000 Central Georgia EMC's (CGEMC) 64,000 members lost power. Miles of downed power lines, tree debris, and more than 500 broken poles were left in the storm's path of destruction. Crews worked day and night to make repairs, including contractors, right-of-way crews, and reinforcements from sister cooperatives.
CGEMC would like to thank our members affected by this storm for their patience, kindness, and cooperation during the outage restoration. We would also like to thank the volunteers for their time and our local restaurants for providing food for the crews.
CGEMC is grateful to the following crews who helped restore power:
- Aiken Electric Cooperative
- Altamaha EMC
- Black River Electric Cooperative
- Cobb EMC
- Colquitt EMC

energy tip
Washing windows and screens is a great way to practice energy efficiency during spring cleaning. Clean windows and screens make your home brighter by allowing more sunlight in, reducing the need for lamps and fixtures. Clean screens also allow more fresh air in the home when the windows are open to recycle indoor air. Natural light and clean air are energy savers, and they enhance overall health and productivity.
