“How have traditional skills been shaped by landscape affordances?”

By creating works that explore the relationship between environment and traditional skills, I can highlight the importance of localised industry.

Experimenting with the form and composition of maritime hardware and creating something nautical-”esque”, I can celebrate the landscape affordances and types of industry of my native environment.

Creating these usually wooden components out of steel, I’ve adapted the local skills of my environment to my learned skill of forging. This has allowed me to further explore my own process and allow my own voice to create a statement about landscape and how traditional skills can strengthen our environmental ties.
