Practice 5 & 6: “How do traditional skills connect us to our environments?”

My body of work from Practice 6, continuing on from Practice 5, explores my own themes of landscape and industry. I created work that highlighted the correlation between landscape affordances and localised industry.

'Tethers'

I wanted to utilise the connections typically seen in nautical boatbuilding which were inspired by my home of Portsmouth. As well as being drenched in Naval heritage, Portsmouth's industry of fishing, freight, and sea transit has always adapted around its connections to the sea.

Forged Deadeyes and Belaying pins.
The pulleys all working in tandem with a forged cleat hitch.

DMF3: Panel Project

My work in this module centred around the lack of access to green spaces in urban living solutions. In deeply urban areas like London, green space is a privilege and is scarce. The panel project saw the creation of a series of wall sconce style hangers that could allow everyone to have their own access and ability to grow. These could be installed as window box style planters, or be kept inside the home.

DMF2: The Replica Project

This module consisted of two parts, creating a replica of a historic artefact and then creating an artistic response to said object.
