Superintendent's Summary DR. JACK PARKER ~ 7.29.22

Welcome back to a new school year! With the best summer since 2019, we are ready and recharged to continue our path in growing the students of Mt. Vernon. Excitement abounds as our teachers and staff have been preparing to have students back in our buildings. Of course, the first few days of school always require a bit more patience as bus routes and parent pick up/drop off always takes time to settle in. I want to share an additional thanks to our transportation, maintenance, and custodial departments, as well as our building administration for the great work they did to make sure our school year started off well. I also want to thank our wonderful and supportive community. Due to their generosity, we have been able to hire additional School Resource Officers so that we will begin this school year with one SRO in each school and two at the high school. Additionally, in these difficult hiring times, we were able to provide a historic raise to our classified staff who support all of the great work in our classrooms. We will also begin pay raise discussions soon with our teachers during their upcoming bargaining season.

Welcome New Teachers, Classified Staff & STUDENTS!

It's been a great start to the 2022-2023 school year!

First Day of School 2022-2023

Welcome New MV Teachers!

Welcome New Classified Staff!

Driving to Administration, Mini-Marauder Preschool & the East Parking Lot of Mt. Vernon Middle School (MVMS)

The entrance off of State Road 234 is closed (just past the main entrance to MVMS) due to student pedestrian traffic. Safety first! To reach the Administration/Mini-Marauder Preschool and MVMS east parking lot, please use the entrance off of CR N200W. See the map for details.

Website & Apps

NEW WEBSITE! The staff directory will be synced soon; thank you for your patience as we strive to make our new website as accurate and user-friendly as possible. A new Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation app is being developed and communication will be sent when it is available.

PARENTSQUARE: Parents/guardians, please consider downloading the ParentSquare app and update your notification preferences for email, text and push notifications. (“Instant” means you will receive post notifications when they are sent and “digest” means all post notifications are sent in a single summary link at 6 p.m. Note: Administration can override digest if the message is urgent.)

Parents listed in Family 1 of the child’s Skyward account automatically have a ParentSquare account with the email and phone number that is listed. Any contact changes need to be made through Skyward; that information is uploaded nightly into ParentSquare.

TRANSPORTATION APP: A new bus GPS app is coming! Stay tuned; MVCSC will be launching a new bus GPS app where parents can see their child’s bus location in real-time. We anticipate the launch to be in the fall; communication will be sent to parents when the new bus app is available.

Calendar

There is no Early Release Wednesday on August 3. (As a reminder, there are no Early Release Wednesdays scheduled on the first and last Wednesdays of each school year.)

Sincerely,

MVCSC Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker
