Welcome
I am so glad you are thinking about joining our team of Securitas Emergency Fire Crew (EFCC).
We’ve created this guide to explain what’s involved - so you can decide if you’d like to be part of our amazing EFCC team.
If you join our team you’ll be part of an unique service that no other UK security company can offer. Completing the training takes plenty of determination but you’ll learn new lifesaving skills and feel a great sense of accomplishment.
You’ll train with the best in the industry, and make new friends, as you learn how to protect lives and property.
You’ll need to be reasonably fit, age is no barrier and you don’t need to be employed by Securitas to apply. *
See you at the first drill?
Paul Rankin. Director of Fire and Safety Services
* If you aren’t an existing Securitas employee, when you join EFCC, you continue in your current role, but we’ll sign you up on a casual contract so we can provide your EFCC training and development and all the necessary insurance.
So what is EFCC?
We partner with several UK Fire Services to provide Emergency Fire Crew Capability (EFCC) - contingency fire crews.
We’ll provide EFCC support in the event of a major incident or industrial action, in fact we’ll help in any emergency when skilled fire crew support is needed.
EFFC isn’t a full time job. You don’t even have to work for Securitas. It’s a great opportunity to learn new skills you’ll be able to use if deployed. Think of EFCC as an amazing opportunity which can sit alongside your day job.
If your application is successful you’ll attend a two week, residential, course with lots of practical exercises and live scenarios. You’ll cover:
- Hose running
- Hydrant operation
- Pump operation
- Ladder climbing
- HAZMAT (decontamination training)
- Road Traffic Collision (RTC) – the use of hydraulic cutting equipment
- First Aid
- Breathing apparatus, search and rescue
- Offensive firefighting
- and defensive firefighting.
Once you are qualified you may be deployed at any time, and every year you’ll need to undertake a six-day refresher course.
Your training and accommodation will be at the Fire Service College in the heart of the Cotswolds.
An amazing facility with over 40 years’ experience in fire and rescue training, the Fire Service College equips firefighters and emergency responders with the latest skills, techniques and procedures.

Here's what one of our EFCC trainers has to say:
Steven Patten
Watch Manager, Stephen, has been in the Fire Service for 20 years and with the EFCC training team for nine years. In addition to being EFCC, Stephen oversees the safety of students during potentially dangerous exercises, and teaches guidelines, policies and standard operational procedures. Stephen explained: “Seeing people transition from a layperson to being able to provide emergency fire cover when needed as a result of the training my team has delivered, is a fantastic feeling.”
