Emma Garcias Portfolio Semester 1

About Me

I am a 16 year old student at Rye High school. My hobbies are art and drawing and science. With my art I enjoy doing characters and portraits from different media I enjoy. Also I am on the golf team here at Rye. Within golf I have already been relatively successful, this past season I went and placed 19th at state my freshman year. Some of my goals in life include pursuing golf professionally, majoring in science, and making a name for myself. My photography experience includes the commercial photography class at Rye.

Museum Pictures

Little Tank Men

In this photo I was trying to capture how full of detail and life the models were. This image is unique because of the scale and life in tiny figures.

Pet Photography

Boo Boo

The lighting in this picture is what I most wanted to capture. Golden hour really emphasized the deep shadows and bright highlights on my cat. Her movement and action ads a lot of life to the photo with her tongue being out.

Animal Photography

Mickey

The action in this picture shows movement and life. My goal was to get close up to show his expression and movement. The lighting really emphasized his fur and the light in his eyes.

Perspective

The Chain

The perspective in the photo allows your eye to travel down the line formed by the chain. The lighting and contrast from the deep shadows and bright highlights makes the picture unique. My goal was to make your eye travel down the picture to be able to see all of the definition.

Natural Photography

Bee

The bright colors in this picture draws the viewers eyes to the darker bee. My goal in this picture was to pick up the bright colors and definition in the flowers and bee. The detain within the individual flowers and the wings of the bee.

Conceptual Self Portrait

Golf Ball

The dark contrast shows great depth within the little groves of the ball. My goal in this picture was to capture the definition of the ball. I wanted to pose it to be able to see the logo on the ball and I think I captured that well.

Animal Photography

Boo Boo pt.2

The back lighting in this picture helped me capture the bright outline around Ella. This picture is unique because of the bright outline around her. All the detail within the bright fur surrender her really adds a sense of warmth almost like a halo.

Making Small Items Big

Trinket

My goal with this picture was to make it feel like it it was something you would see in a museum. The shiny metal added great depth to the highlights. The intricate design of the item added depth with deep shadows.

Zoo Pictures

Monkey

With this picture I wanted to capture the personality of the monkey. The way the monkey was positioned eating the pepper made the picture a one time opportunity to capture the teeth. I believe this picture is unique because of the goofy personality of the monkey.

Zoo Photography

Giraffe

The way the tongue sticks out towards the camera adds action to the picture. The perspective of the picture makes it very unique. My goal with this picture was to get a funny but unique picture of the giraffe.

Close Up Photography

Dandelion

My goal with this picture was to have the central focus on the dandelion. The focal point of this picture being slightly to the side of the photo adds a more dynamic feel to the photograph.

Close Up Photography

Ice Ice Baby

in this picture my goal was to draw the viewers eyes away from the center of the picture with the front being blurred. This picture is unique because of the detail on the ice. You can almost imagine how the ice feels within the detail of the picture.

Lightroom

Kammy

The bright and colorful lights from his glow sticks adds a capturing element. My goal was to emphasize all the different colors in the picture and have them stick out from the dark background.

Homecoming Pictures

Ava Slay

The bright lights and dynamic and action filled poses of everyone on the stage gives the picture an almost magazine cover feel. The lighting emphasizes the members of the band well. My goal was to capture how the bands energy was to the audience.

Zoo Photos

Otter

My goal in this picture was to capture the otter and the water in detail. The reflections in the water and on the shine of the otter gives the image something to grab your eye. The definition of the otters fur is captured really well within the picture and I believe it adds a great sense of life.

About This Class

My favorite assignment in this class was the zoo photography. I enjoyed it so much because we got to go and interact with the animals at the zoo. We got a guided tour of the zoo and were able to get close to the animals and get great pictures. I believe my photography skills have grown over the course of this class. I definitely think about the pictures I'm taking in a more complicated and detailed way.
