Town of Amherst Award Recipients

Mohammed A.

Practical Nursing, Cumberland Campus

"This award will help me focus more in my academic performance and will definitely have a great impact in my personal life. I will be able to spend funds in other areas of my schooling and life, like purchasing books, scrubs and rent. Having to worry less about funding will positively influence my educational journey at NSCC and my academic achievements. I am very appreciative and thankful for all your support."

"I am a caring, loving and helpful person who chose Canada and Nova Scotia specifically to be his home. I adore this beautiful country and every aspect of it. NSCC provided me with the necessary tools and mindset since the first time I attended in 2016 to do the CCA program. Therefore, I am confident of my ability to learn more and advance in my career, as well as be an active part of the community that I love so much.

I would like to thank the Town of Amherst for their contributions to me and all the other students. With their generosity and help, I can achieve my ambitions and participate in making a positive change to the town and county’s healthcare, and its great community. Myself and every individual of my family would like to thank you for this kindhearted, giving and generous donation towards my education and wellbeing."

Lily D.

Office Administration, Cumberland Campus

"This award will have a huge and great impact on my education at NSCC as I’m already behind on course book costs, so this will help me tremendously to complete the course. I would just like to say thank you so much for this award. I appreciate it very much. Amherst will always be home to me."

"I would firstly like to say thank you so much for awarding me the Town of Amherst Award. I was born and raised in Amherst, right up on Cornwall Street. I graduated high school in 2019 and now I’m enrolled at NSCC for Office Administration. Amherst means so much to me, I even moved back here 2 years ago because I missed it so much. My family lives here, the community is so kind and patient, and I even met my fiancé at Northport Beach. Overall I’m proud to call it my hometown.

I chose to attend NSCC because all my life I’ve always wanted to help people in some way. I know Office Administration is one of the most helpful fields of work you can do with lots of variety so I chose to study Office Administration with NSCC as they were close to where I live and could afford it. Best decision of my life. Growing up around Amherst I have always dealt with nice, patient administrators, so I want to be just like them after I complete my course. My goals in the future include: starting a family, being successful/happy in my career, and hopefully be able to secure a mortgage. This helps me by being able to pass the course and start looking for my long-term career to start saving for a mortgage, and can start a family down the road."

Autumn R.

Practical Nursing, Cumberland Campus

"“Thank you for this opportunity to allow me to further my education as this will help me with my books, keeping me able to attend my classes and progress through this program so I am able to give back to the community in a meaningful and fulfilling way. I am very excited to be able to benefit our community that has offered me so many opportunities through my youth and following me into my adulthood now. I will forever think of Amherst as my hometown as this is the town where I have truly felt accepted and spent a majority of my life. I have always enjoyed the openness this town shows to everyone and I cannot wait to become a part of those welcoming hands and further this community into the prospective future. Thank you again for this wonderful opportunity.”"

“I have been living in Amherst for about a decade now. While I have been living here I have experienced a lot of opportunities through the community, one of the main ones that shaped me as a person and still have an influence on me to this day is the Amherst Air Cadets. The air cadets provided me with many volunteer opportunities to help the community and that had a long lasting impact on me, which has now helped guide my path to the NSCC here in Amherst to become a nurse and help our population in a meaningful and impactful way. I want to be a healthcare worker that can treat my patients like the amazing workers I have met through my years here, who have treated me.
