Note from our Head
Dear Oakfield families,
It was wonderful seeing so many of you at our World Summer Fair on Saturday and my thanks go to OAFs and all the people who made it such a wonderful success.
This week has seen an explosion of creativity as our Summer Exhibition comes to a thrilling crescendo with our auction event this evening. I do hope many of you will join and savour the brilliant art our Oakfield community have all contributed as well as help raise money for our fantastic charity partners VICTA.
I also want to call out the many sporting pursuits which have been undertaken this week including our incredibly talented ISA Athletics competitors at both regional and national level which you can read more about in this newsletter along with all the other fantastic sporting performances.
Have wonderful, warm weekends all.

BIRTHDAY BROADCAST
Clean Air Week
The Clean Air for Oakfield Group led Assembly on Tuesday to speak to the children about pollution and the importance of all of us making small changes which can make a big difference to our air quality. The children were very knowledgeable about the causes, health effects and ways of tackling pollution.
The Group also wanted to share this message with all our Oakfield families:
Thank you to all the families who have helped us celebrate Clean Air Day by using active travel and public transport this week. It's been fantastic to see so many bikes and scooters at the school gates. Leaving the car behind for just a few days a week can make a big difference to the air quality and traffic levels outside the school.
We would like to let you know that Defra is running a consultation on long term targets for the environment, including clean air. It is the biggest opportunity to improve air pollution across the country over the next decade. A few minutes of your time could make all the difference to the health of all our children. This simple tool from Mums for Lungs makes it easy to respond to the consultation in just a couple of minutes:
The deadline to respond is the 27th of June.
Thank you,
Clean Air for Oakfield
Year 6
Enterprise Stalls
Some photos from the amazing Enterprise stalls which Year 6 put together as part of their Diploma. We hope the younger children enjoyed the games and activities on offer and the Year 6s put the hard-earned money towards a brilliant Leavers Party at the end of the year!
Year 5
X marks the spot
Year 5 have been dreaming up Treasure maps in Maths. We have looked at coordinates, using scales and measuring the playground to make it accurate. The children collaborated on their maps and used different icons as a key. Well done everyone!
YEAR 4
Hooke Court Residential Trip
Year 4 had a brilliant trip to Hooke Court featuring lots of activities in the great outdoors pushing them to challenge and collaborate at every turn! They did so well on their residential trip and look forward to many more to come during their time at Oakfield!
YEAR 3
Some fantastic creativity from Year 3 pupils as they sing 'Old MacDonald' in Spanish and demonstrate their creativity with excellent video-making skills too!
Year 2
We have been enjoying the lovely weather this week in Year 2. It has been the perfect week to start learning about plants. In our Science lesson we went outside and used the gardening area of the school to talk about growth and the life cycle of a sunflower. We discussed what is necessary for a plant to grow and each class planted their own class sunflower seed. Thank you Mr Roye for germinating the seeds for us! The children are taking it in turns to water the sunflower and to monitor the growth process. We are hoping in 5 weeks their class sunflower will be blooming!
Who knew that gardening and Science are such fun!
English lessons were also busy. We continued to practise using a dictionary and ordered words in alphabetical order so we know what to do even when two words start with the same letter!
YEAR 1
The Year 1 children were challenging themselves to try new foods in our Caribbean fruit tasting sessions. They learned the names of and tried a range of tropical fruits, such as: guava, papaya, mango, coconut, jackfruit, custard apple and many more! We were so impressed with how many of the children were brave to try something new!
The children then wrote some brilliant descriptive sentences to describe the fruits they learned about.
LOWER FOUNDATION
We had such an amazing time at Battersea Zoo and the children had a fantastic day seeing animals and exploring the site in the lovely, sunny weather.
SPORT
ISA Athletics Regionals Competition
On Tuesday 7th June, our Athletics Team took part in the ISA Regional Athletics Competition. We experienced every type of weather but everyone did so well and it was fantastic to see so many athletes win medals. We had a number of finalists who won their heats and we will update you soon with the medallists from the day! A big thank you to all of the parents that came to support us!
A special mention to our four athletes that made it through to the Nationals; Leonardo (Shot Put), Conor (600m), Idris (Long Jump) and Eliana (150m).
On Monday 13th June these 4 athletes departed school with our staff very early to travel to Manchester for the ISA National Athletics Competition. Our athletes were competing against a number of different regions from around the country and did so well!
Netball
A big well done to our Staff Netball Team who played in a number of matches on Saturday at the Summer Fair. They were victorious and even beat the parents' team!
Oakfield Netball Squad 2021-2022: A huge well done to our Netball Squad for a great year of fun! On Tuesday 14th the team played in some of their final matches as a team against each other and then against some of the teachers! Good luck for the future to our Year 6 Netballers! We will miss you.
And well done to our Year 5 netballers who played against Sydenham High on Thursday afternoon. Despite the sweltering heat the teams played so well and a big shout out to Eli and Joel for helping the teams out as they were missing some players! The children then enjoyed being sprayed with water to cool down - well-played netball teams!
Finally here is a very focused Anoushka at her last regional race (Peckham BMX club). She had tough competition but managed to get 4th place overall - so huge congratulations to her!
