Welcome to Riseholme A guide to Riseholme Park

Welcome to the Estates guide to the University of Lincoln's Riseholme Park. The University of Lincoln acquired Riseholme Park in 1994. It can be found just north of Lincoln and is home to the Lincoln Institute for Agri-Food Technology (LIAT). The campus will also be regularly used by professional services teams across the university. Riseholme Park comprises of academic and residential buildings, a working farm, woodlands, grasslands and watercourses. The buried remains and earthwork of a mediaeval village are on site from a settlement that was established before the late 11th century.

Find out how you can look after the Estate and check out our Riseholme Countryside Code below:

Accessing the Estate

To get to the main campus, please enter via the Lawress Hall entrance or Riseholme Lane (from the A15). If you are travelling from the Riseholme roundabout, this turning is a right hand turn; visitors may find it easier to drive to the roundabout past the Lincolnshire Showground, follow it round and head back down the A15, turning left onto Riseholme Lane. Alternatively, access can be gained onto Riseholme Lane via the A46 near Nettleham.

Cyclists should always use the cycle path after the Riseholme roundabout. Alternatively, there is a cycle route beside the A46 and access to the Riseholme Park via Riseholme Lane. There are bike stands adjacent to Plowright House.

Staff and students are reminded to wear their University ID cards for the Security team to be able to identify them. Visitor lanyards are available from Security.

Lawress Hall

Lawress Hall is now the normal place of work for staff from most Professional Services departments, except those whose roles require them to have a permanent presence on the Brayford Pool Campus (such as Library and Student Support colleagues).

Riseholme Facilities

On the main campus, University of Lincoln staff and student activities are primarily based in Lawress Hall, Riseholme Hall, Riseholme Conference Centre and the Rural Science Centre.

The Security Office is currently based at Wordsworth Hall, directly across from Riseholme Hall. Security will be moving to Lawress Hall in July 2023. Please let the Security team know in advance so that they are aware of large numbers on campus. We encourage campus users to use the dedicated phone number for this team: 07973448235.

Riseholme Hall was the centre of a major renovation capital project in 2021, which has both breathed new life into the building whilst maintaining sensitivity to its Grade II conservation status. Meeting rooms are available to book in the building including the Lincoln Room, the Holland Room and the Kesteven Room. There is also a small lecture theatre.

Here is some information about the building:

What facilities are available?

The staff kitchen at Riseholme Hall has been refurbished, and there is a microwave, kettle and fridge. We would recommend bringing your own lunch, drinks, and snacks if using this kitchen.

Rooms are also available to book in this building.

Riseholme Park Farm

Riseholme Farm is not only a working farm, it also provides educational opportunities for Riseholme College, who share our campus and have specialist facilities onsite.

Livestock who live here include the Lincoln Red, one of the oldest of the UK’s Native Breeds of beef cattle, and more recently, the rare Lincoln Longwool sheep, of which there are less than 800 breeding ewes left. We also have a Lincoln Red bull called Wolf, who was shown at Lincolnshire Show in 2019.

Riseholme Park Farm now also offers local farm produce for staff, students and members of the public to purchase. Lamb and Beef boxes are offered when available, and we are looking to sell independent packs through FoodLinc in the near future. If you are interested in further information or would like to go on a waiting list, please email riseholmeparkfarm@lincoln.ac.uk

You should take special care when moving around the estate and be aware of agricultural and forestry machinery operations in progress. Please do not enter a field which contains livestock.

Please take particular care around the lake and water courses on campus.

Things you should know

Including our partnership with Bishop Burton College (Riseholme College), we do have a number of tenants who work at the campus and specialist facilities. This includes the Barclay's Eagle Lab at Plowright House.

Exploring the campus

Staff and students are welcome to explore the main campus, including in front of Riseholme Hall, where the lake is. Please be aware that some areas are currently padlocked, for the security of the site and for the safety of our livestock. Unless you have permission to work in them, please don't enter any buildings other than Lawress Hall, Riseholme Hall, Wordsworth Hall, the Riseholme Conference Centre and the Rural Science Centre.

There are two landscaped gardens that you can visit:

Bishop's Walk: A long garden of tended to flower beds against a wall, ending in a gate. This area can be found by walking into the woodland from the P2 carpark (behind to Plowright House), and turning left. The gate at the end is locked. Photo below:

The Glasshouse Gardens: This is a long landscaped garden that is adjacent to the road into the campus. The entrance is opposite the glasshouses. There are dedicated picnic benches in this area (although please take your rubbish away with you). Photo below.

There is also a permissive footpath opposite Riseholme Farm. A map is available using the link below:

There is also a bridleway running from the A15 to the farm and from St Mary’s Church to the road at Grange de Lings, which both provide lovely views over the surrounding countryside.
