What is Fresh Check Day?
Fresh Check Day is a program designed to bring light to topics concerning mental health promotion and suicide prevention on college campuses. This week, the ECU Well-Being Collective is ready to help support our Pirates battle the mental health crisis on campus. With the support of multiple groups and departments, the event aims to create a hopeful and encouraging environment for students looking to learn more about mental health and the resources available to them.
Peer to Peer Learning
At each interactive booth, you’ll have the opportunity to engage with your peers in a healthy conversation about effective coping strategies, suicide prevention, and how to be an active bystander. Learn how to be supportive to those in your life and how to battle hurtful stigmas surrounding mental health.
Here’s a Sneak Peek at Some of Our Booths:
Nine out of Ten
- One in ten college students contemplates suicide. At any given time, nine out of ten students may have the opportunity to help those who are struggling. Learn about the warning signs of suicide and how you can help.
Elephant in the Room
- Having a lack of awareness or misunderstanding can lead some people to keep their feelings and experiences a secret in fear of being shamed or judged. Join us in bringing these topics to light while challenging common stigmas.
Uplift
- Uplift promotes self-care and wellness to help students find healthy coping strategies that work for them.
Know Your Limit
- Learn about alcohol safety, the signs of alcohol abuse or dependence on oneself or others, and the resources available to you on campus.
Thrive
- Recognize how you can thrive by focusing on your strengths and having a positive attitude. Learn the importance of practicing gratitude and the positive effect it can have on your mental health. Tap into your mental health superpowers and put on your best pose in our Superhero Photobooth!
