Adopted Housing Element Submitted to HCD!
After unanimous Town Council adoption at its May 10, 2023 meeting, Town staff submitted the updated Housing Element to the State Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) on May 26, 2023. The latest version reflects changes requested by HCD in their first review comment letter issued on November 9, 2022, as well as changes directed by Town Council in response to comments from the public Planning Commission, and the Ad Hoc Housing Element Committee. HCD has 60 days to review the latest Housing Element and either certify or provide the Town with further comments. The Housing Element Update has been a challenging, nearly two-year process for the Town. The latest version represents a thoughtful and considered compromise responsive to many different community concerns and interests. Thank you to the Ad Hoc Housing Element Committee, Planning Commission, Town Council, Town Committees, and all the interested community members who contributed to a robust public process encompassing 143 hours spanning 41 public meetings.

Wildfire Preparedness Committee Tip - Mow Weeds Now; Proposed Ordinances
WFPD requires seasonal weed abatement such as mowing weed grasses and clearing brush. Residents should complete abatement by July 1st of every year. The weeds have already dried to yellow and will spread fire fast, so please mitigate soon.
If a neighboring property has fire hazards that haven’t been addressed despite your congenial efforts, you can file a Hazard Complaint Form with WFPD. Their friendly fire inspectors will explain personal responsibilities and may be able to find them help.
New WFPD Ordinances are being proposed
It is anticipated that the WFPD Board will soon introduce their new Fire Code Ordinance 13-2023 and schedule a public hearing. District residents should review and comment on this ordinance, as it has substantive changes that impact existing and future homes. Please help get the word out and get residents aware and involved. WFPD Board agendas are posted here.
Conservation Committee- Late-Spring Wildflowers
And here is a selection of local wildflowers that bloom in May - June. You can expand small patches by clearing any weeds around the bases of the plants you’d like to encourage. Weed-whacking around them works well in larger areas. The annuals often re-seed very well.
