Town Council Meeting Summary Sept 14, 2022

A summary of the most recent meeting held on September 14th is now available. The Town Council adopted an ADU ambassador program and heard a presentation on Suicide Prevention Month and presented a proclamation

This Weekend – Town Picnic and Zotts to Tots Family Fun Run and Bike Race

Zotts to Tots is on Saturday, September 17 at 10 am, followed by the Town Picnic from 11 am to 3 pm.

Have you registered for Zotts to Tots yet? This is the one time a year we shut down Portola and Alpine road to vehicles! Almost 200 people are registered to run and/or bike the race so far. Join the fun and register here for the race

After the race, come by and have fun with your friends and neighbors at the Town Picnic. Bounce houses, face painting, pony rides, a petting zoo and great music with our own Windy Hill Band all make for a fun day at Town Center. The Boy Scouts are back again with their burgers and the Cielito Lindo Food Truck will be there with Mexican street food.

Update on State Legislative Session

2022 Street Repair - Phase 2 starts September 19th

Phase 1 of our street repairs have begun. Expect minor delays during this period on various streets throughout Town. Learn more about the project on the Street Resurfacing Project page. Note the dates are subject to change. All changes will be posted on the website.

Phase 2 - September 19-23

Tasks: Crack fill- minor traffic controls in place, expect minor delays

Locations: Alpine Road, Hillbrook Dr, Sausal Drive, Montera Court, Holden Court, Deer Meadow Lane, Cervantes Road, Peak Lane Golden Oak Drive, Cherokee Way, Cherokee Court, Cima Way, Bayberry, Old La Honda Road

Phase 3 - September 26-30

Tasks: Slurry Seal or Cape Seal

Locations: Street will be closed during phase 3 with no access, you will be notified of the exact date via door hanger and this website. This should be 1 day for 5-6 hours for your street.

Phase 4 - October 10-14

Tasks: Repaint traffic stripes- minor traffic controls in place, expect minor delays

What is Blooming Now - Elegant and Hayfield Tarweeds

Late in the summer, these amazing little daisy-like flowers spring forth in grasslands and fields, providing a valuable source of nectar for many insects late in the year. Borne on long stems with little foliage save sparse sticky leaves they appear to be very delicate and airy. But they are extremely tough, these annual herbs are drought-tolerant and thrive in dry and disturbed areas. Seed is available from a few sources, but it is easily collected and sown in the fall. Wildfire Preparedness Committee Tip - September is National Preparedness Month (2022)

The Wildfire Preparedness Committee has created a series of tips to help the community prepare for wildfire season. You can see the current tip and download any past tips on the website.

MROSD Presentation on Fire Mitigation Efforts at Windy Hill

At their September meeting, the Wildfire Preparedness Committee heard a presentation from the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (MROSD) on their ongoing fire mitigation work at Windy Hill. The MROSD also presented at the Town Council Meeting on Sept 14th. You can view their presentation here.

Commissioner Lara Submits First-in-Nation Wildfire Safety Regulation to Drive Down the Cost of Insurance

Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara submitted his insurance pricing regulation to the California Office of Administrative Law that would recognize and reward wildfire safety and mitigation efforts made by homeowners and businesses. The regulation is the first in the nation requiring insurance companies to provide discounts to consumers under the Safer from Wildfires framework created by the California Department of Insurance in partnership with state emergency preparedness agencies.

TODAY! September 15, 2022 Portola Valley Summer Concert Series

Portola Valley Summer Concert Series 2022 – Join us for the last concert of the summer series

All concerts will be held on the Performance Lawn by the Library. Food Trucks will be at the Farmers Market. Please also feel free to bring blankets and lawn chairs and a picnic basket with your favorite snacks and beverages.

September 15, 2022, 5:30 PM- 8 PM - Alex Lucero & The Live Again Band is a 5-piece band crossing genres ranging from soul, funk, jazz, Americana, and beyond.

This Weekend! September 17, 2022 - Town Picnic & Zotts to Tots

The Town Picnic and the Zotts to Tots fun run are on Saturday, September 17th at the Portola Valley Town Center. Join the Family Fun Run and Bike Race. It ends at the picnic where you can rest up, get a bite to eat, and enjoy all the activities. Kids' activities could include face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, and more. Bring the whole family for a day of fun at the Portola Valley Town Center!

Please Note – There will be road closures in Town during the Zotts to Tots race. Maps are posted to the route along Alpine and Portola Roads between the Alpine Inn and Town Center. Please plan accordingly

September 30, 2022 - Star Party

The Nature and Science Committee is hosting an evening of star watching. Come by the fields at Town Center from 8 -10 PM to view the Moon and Saturn through telescopes and participate in night sky activities.

October 1, 2022 - Neighborhood Clean Up

Get ready for the next Neighborhood Clean-Up Day! This event is free for Portola Valley residents - you will need to bring a copy of your GreenWaste garbage bill or the mailer insert as proof of residency.

October 8, 2022 - Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Event

San Mateo County Health will be hosting a drop-off event for Hazardous Waste. You can make an appointment for this event or others around the county here.

October 14, 2022 - Kids Movie Night in the Park

The Cultural Arts Committee will be hosting a movie in the park at Town Hall. Bring your picnic to share with your friends and family. Stay tuned. The movie will be announced soon.
