URI competes in the NCAA Division 1 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) and are members of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). In 2021, the team played a shortened spring season finishing 2-1 and played a traditional fall season finishing with a 7-4 record. The 2022 season will be Head Coach Jim Fleming's ninth season leading the Rams.
MEADE STADIUM
The stadium was constructed in 1928 and was named after politician, alum, and lifelong URI football fan Jack Meade, who never missed a home football game. The field turf and stadium lights were added in 2019 and the stadium has seating capacity for 6,555.
HISTORIC RUN!
During the 2021 fall season, the Rams jumped out to a 5-0 start for just the fourth time in program history. After their fifth victory, the Rams were the 12th ranked team in FCS and it was their highest ranking in 20 years.
THE GOVERNOR'S CUP
Every year, URI and Brown University compete for possession of the Governor's Cup and most recently the Rams came away victorious in 2021 with a 45-24 victory. It is one of the oldest college football rivalries and dates back to 1909. The Rams have won the previous three contests.
