This week in science we have been studying plants. The children began by looking at a selection of seeds and bulbs and discussed what they saw, noting similarities and differences.
We talked about how seeds and bulbs grow into plants and what they need to survive, for example water, warmth and air. The children made some observational drawings of seeds and bulbs and added lots of detail to their work. They then had a lovely time in our garden looking for signs of growth.
This week we have also planted daffodil bulbs and over the year the children are going to observe how they change and record their findings. The children are taking such good care of them already and Iโm looking forward to watching them grow.
We went on a tree hunt identifying what was the same and what was different about the treeโs we saw. The children did a great job labelling the different parts of a tree and learned about a new part, which was called the crown.
We then explored the question of, do bigger trees have bigger leaves? The children came up with some really interesting predictions but in the end we agreed that bigger trees can have small or large leaves.
The children also enjoyed collecting a selection of leaves and used a magnifying glass to look more closes at the detail on the leaf. They then drew what they could see and I was really impressed with the amount of detail they put into their work. ๐ ๐
