INSET Days: Friday May 26th and Monday June 5th will be our last two INSET days for 2022/23. The last day of term will be Friday 21st July. We will also have the first 2 INSET days of 23/24 on Friday 1st September and Monday 4th September - the first day back for children will be Tuesday 5th September.
PTA Thank you to the PTA for the fantastic cake sale yesterday afternoon. Their next event will be our non-uniform Rainbow Day on Thursday May 25th (the last day before half term) - please see information here. Don't forget to save the date for the summer fete - Friday 30th June 2:30pm - 5:30pm (staff will supervise children and allow them to take part until 3:30pm if parents / family unable to attend).
Well done to our Year 5 & 6 team who represented us at the Cluster Times Tables Tournament this morning held in Ynysddu. We're very proud of them.
This week is the last week of clubs for a while. Next week staff will be meeting with Governors and attending further IT training. After half term we will, as we have in previous years, not run clubs whilst staff are writing end of year reports.
Foundation Phase Trips: Reception - Year 2 will be going to Colliers Farm on 12th June. More information to follow in a letter on Monday (there will be an email and a paper version with permission slip attached). Nursery will also be visiting (with parents) on Wednesday 5th July.
Hockey Tournament: next Wednesday a team made up of Year 5 & 6 children will be representing the school at a local tournament - we wish them all the very best! There will also be a girls' football tournament on Wednesday 5th July.
Our first parent forum takes place on Tuesday next week (23rd) at 2:30pm. Thank you to our volunteers. The first agenda includes discussion around our updated school vision (our motto change from Dysgu Gorau, Dysgu Byw, Learning together, Learning for Life to Achieve, Believe, Care); our class organisation policy and the communication that will go out to parents prior to next half term's PHSE unit (which includes Relationships and Sex Education). We still don't have representation from parents of children in Years 1 & 2. If you would be interested in taking part please contact Mrs Tucker TuckerJ58@sch.caerphilly.gov.uk
Fruit: unfortunately very few parents are paying for the fruit we provide for children in Nursery - Year 2. This is a desperate appeal for the weekly contribution of £1.50. School fund is becoming much depleted. School fund is used to pay for things outside of the curriculum. For example, in the last year we have marked the jubilee and coronation with mementos and parties as well as Christmas parties and books for the children and Easter eggs. We also use it to pay for transport such as the bus to the hockey tournament next week. This means that at the moment there is less to bring down the price of school trips to parents at a time when transport costs are very high.
Please avoid using the lane at the beginning and end of the day. It is really not suitable for two way traffic. Taxis and parents of children attending the satellite class need to go up to the lane to the playground. I have been made aware several times this year of parents blocking the gate, blocking access for residents and some even parking within the garage (which is private property). All of which are not acceptable and some people have been unpleasant to Mr Evans who is doing his very best to look out for the satellite class pupils and those children and parents using the pedestrian access. I would strongly advise against pedestrians walking up the lane - it is very dangerous given the number of cars using it at the current time.
Reminder: Years 4 & 5 will be going swimming for the first 3 weeks after half term - thank you to everyone who has already sent in money for the bus. Please note that this is a compulsory part of the curriculum. Information linked here.
Reminder: Sports Days are planned for Nursery Tuesday 20/6/23 am; Rec - Y2 am Wednesday 21/6/23 am; Y3-6 Wednesday 21/6/23 pm. Information linked here.
