Artist Statement

As a professor of figure drawing, I have had the privilege to work with models who spend many hours patiently posing for our students. For this painting, I collaborated with Arielle Miller who has modeled for our illustration program for many years.

I have titled my oil painting Weeping Angel. In these distressing times, much is posited about the “better angels of our nature.” At times, we all fall, but as we find our ascending angelic natures, we can heal and prevail.
