Term 1a, week 8

It’s been a busy half term and we have covered and learned loads! We can’t believe we’ve completed our first 8 weeks of Year 5….it’s flown over!

This week, we created our Anglo-Saxon brooches based on our designs.

We thought about the shapes and textures we wanted to use as well as the symmetry of the designs.

We completed our learning about the Anglo-Saxons by looking at the social hierarchy of society.

We carried out some research and recorded some facts in our books.

Year 5 won the final attendance reward of the half term and we rolled the dice to be given some time in the ICT suite.

We voted for what we wanted to do and guess what……….we voted to play Blooket!

In Spanish, we continued learning the Spanish words for some items of clothing and whether they took the masculine or feminine form.

The Live Theatre people returned and this week, we worked with the composer of the show.

We looked at the lyrics for one of the songs in the performance and played around with changing some of the words.

We shared our ideas with the composer and we hope that some of them make it into the show, ‘Blitzen on the Tyne’

Following our visit to the Theatre Royal to see Valerie Bloom (a couple of weeks ago) we wrote our own version of a poem she performed for us.

She told us a poem called ‘Pinda Cake’ using Jamaican patois and we had a go at writing and performing our own Geordie version, ‘Stottie Cake’.

Some of us had never eaten stottie cake before! Mr Rundle and Mrs Bewick were so surprised that they bought us some to try.

We loved it!

A great end to a great half term. What will next half term bring?
