We have been working hard on our reading skills this week, we’ve been the library several times this year so far so everybody has had the opportunity to choose a new reading book.
Our reading sessions this week, have focused on reading with fluency and at pace. We are working hard to improve our reading every day.
Our focus in Science this half term is forces and this week we have been paying close attention to friction. We designed an experiment to see who had the grippiest shoes.
We worked in trios and each of us took off the shoe. We used the force gauge to measure how much friction there was between the shoe in the table as we pulled it across a number of different surfaces. Most of the class pulled their shoes across the carpet, the table or a radiator.
We all made predictions on whose shoe would have the greatest amount of friction and then did the experiment. On Friday, we spent some of the session creating conclusions and working out if our predictions was right. We found out that the shoes with the greatest amount of friction with the newest shoes that had been worn the least, and had the most elaborate patterns on their soles.
Swazaline using a force gauge.
We tried to make exact readings.
We worked in trios which made it a lot easier to do the experiment.
In DT we tested 3 different pasta sauces. We had a go at comparing the different sources and thought about the ingredients which were included each of them. We will try and develop our own pasta sauce over the next few weeks.
We kept notes as we were trying the sauces.
Each sauce had similar ingredients but they all tasted slightly different.
In Geography, we continued our research into South America. This week we used to cut and stick activity to find out more about human and physical features.
This year’s MOBO (Music Of Black Origin) Awards are being held in Newcastle. As part of the celebrations of this amazing event, we had 2 special visitors in school on Thursday. had 2 special guests on Thursday, Kay and Mimi. Kay is a rapper and Mimi is a dancer and DJ.
They performed for us before helping us write and perform our own raps.
We began to note down words and phrases in groups before organising them into longer sentences.
Once we’d written and practised our raps, we performed them for the class.
There were some fantastic examples of writing and performing on display!
Everyone got stuck in and took part.
It was a lot of fun.
We loved the session, it was such a great opportunity to work with 2 super talented individuals.
The class carried on with their gymnastic sessions in PE.
Here we are getting warmed up.
We practised forward rolls.
We also worked on getting up from the forward roll.
We ended the week with our fitness session with Mr. Walker. It’s really tough!
We kept scores of how many reps of each exercise our partners did.
The slam ball is heavy!
We had to keep our hands on the bench and hop over it as quickly as we could.
Jumping over the hurdles is hard work.
