April 4 - 8

April 1: Children’s Advocacy Supplies Drive

Gadsden State Cherokee kicks off its annual supplies drive. Needs, such as Lysol spray, antibacterial wipes, tissue and hand soap as well as crafts for play therapy, will be collected and donated. The drive will last the entire month of April.

April 4:  Faculty & Staff Spotlights

Fun facts about Gadsden State employees will be sent via email and posted on social media in the "spotlight." Faculty or staff from Wallace Drive, Valley Street and Cherokee will be featured.

April 5:  What is Your Why? Social Media Competition

Students will be encouraged to participate in a social media campaign that will include photos and “testimonials” about why they chose Gadsden State. Students can enter by posting to Instagram or TikTok with the hashtag #GSCCmywhy. A winner will receive prizes.

April 5: Etowah County Proclamation

A proclamation will be presented by the Etowah County Commission at 9 a.m. at the Courthouse.

April 5: Community & College CONNECTION Meetings

The Gadsden State Valley Street Campus will host a Community & College Connection meeting from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Learning Resource Center. Come and get to know more about our local HBCU campus and win a door prize! For more information contact Ricky Tillis, Title II program advisor and campus director, at rtillis@gadsdenstate.edu.

April 6: Community College Month Luncheon

The Cafeteria is offering discounted lunches in recognition of Community College Month from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. For just $6, patrons will receive an entrée, three sides and a drink.

Fried Catfish - Mac & Cheese - Green Beans - Cole Slaw - Hushpuppies - White Rice

April 7: American Heart Association’s Heart Walk

Heart Walk begins at 5 p.m. in Downtown Gadsden. Nursing students, EMS students and therapeutic massage students will be on-hand to provide blood pressure checks, teach hands-only CPR and provide chair massages. Gadsden State is a sponsor of the event.

April 8: Cardinal Spirit Day

Employees are encouraged to wear their cardinal best and share on social media. Prizes will be given.

April 9: Cardinal Foundation Swoop Sprint 5K

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. Race begins at 9 a.m. in front of Beck Field House. Student groups, employees and community supporters are encouraged to participate. All funds provide scholarships to students!

April 11: Cardinal Day

Advisors will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the One Stop Center and Cardinal Tutoring Center on the Ayers Campus; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Student Resource Center on the Valley Street Campus and the lobby at Gadsden State Cherokee to assist students with registering for the Summer Semester. Popcorn, drinks and giveaways will be available.

April 11: Cardinal Arts Journal Workshop 2 - Make-n-Take Fun

Reserve your seat for Workshop 2 - Make-n-Take Fun in the lobby of Allen Hall, starting at 12 to 2 p.m. Workshop led by local artist, Ashley Ross Handy. Monthly workshops sponsored by the Cardinal Arts Journal, exploring various creative topics, including creative writing, photography, video editing, art, creative lifestyles, online publishing, and more.

A proclamation will be presented by the Cherokee County Commission at 10 a.m.

April 12: Cardinal Day

Advisors will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the One Stop Center and Cardinal Tutoring Center on the Ayers Campus; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Student Resource Center on the Valley Street Campus and the lobby at Gadsden State Cherokee to assist students with registering for the Summer Semester. Popcorn, drinks and giveaways will be available.

April 12: Cleburne County Proclamation

A proclamation will be presented by the Cleburne County Commission at 5 p.m.

April 12: Honors Day | Ayers Campus

Awards and scholarships for students at the Ayers Campus will be recognized during the ceremony planned for 2 p.m. at the Oxford Civic Center.

April 13: Cardinal Day

Advisors will be available from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the One Stop Center and Cardinal Tutoring Center on the Ayers Campus; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Student Resource Center on the Valley Street Campus and the lobby at Gadsden State Cherokee to assist students with registering for the Summer Semester. Popcorn, drinks and giveaways will be available.

The Calhoun County Commission will present a proclamation to Gadsden State at 10 a.m.

April 14: Sonographer Social and CME Appreciation Event

Alumni and community sonographers are invited to an evening of Dinner and Fellowship at Garfrerick’s Café at 6:30 p.m. Richard Palma of Duke School of Medicine will speak on ‘Improving Management of Critical Care Patients.’ Attendees will earn CMEs. Gadsden State Community College DMS Program Director and Faculty would like to say “THANK YOU” to the local sonographers. Lantheus Medical Imaging sponsors the event.

April 19: Ayers Campus Student Appreciation Day

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks will be provided. There will be a softball tournament on the field behind Diesel Technology. Softball equipment is donated by McGriff Tire. Corn Hole and other games will take place in the FAME and Truck driving parking lot. To sign-up for the tournament, contact Gary Udaka at gudaka@gadsdenstate.edu.

April 19: Leadership Etowah Education Day

The Leadership Etowah Class of 2022 will be on campus to meet with college administrators and local school superintendents as well as tour some of Gadsden State’s many programs on the East Broad, Wallace Drive and Valley Street campuses. Wear a smile!

April 19: S.P.A. Spring Luncheon

The S.P.A. Spring Luncheon will be at El Tapatio II on April 19 at 11:30 a.m. Please RSVP to one of the following S.P.A. officers:

For those who are new to Gadsden State, WELCOME! The luncheons are an opportunity to get to know others outside of your department. S.P.A. meets three times a year. *Annual membership dues are collected at the summer luncheon. *Cost of lunch is the responsibility of the individual.

April 20: Xtreme Cherokee

The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gadsden State Cherokee lobby. Food and drinks will be provided. Lagatha's House of Axe will feature indoor axe throwing for our students. Students who plan to participate in indoor axe throwing must wear closed-toed shoes, complete a waiver and provide a Student ID.

April 20: Preview Day

9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Ayers Campus. This event includes a guided tour of the campus as well as information on admissions, financial aid and student services. Prospective students of all ages are welcome! Wear a smile!

April 20:  Gadsden State Grads Video

Gadsden State employees who also have a credential from Gadsden State will be featured in a social media video. Please submit your name, Gadsden State credential, job title and a photo of yourself to lcatoe@gadsdenstate.edu.

April 21: G-Day

Carnival games, food and fun will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Wallace Drive Quad. Tshirts will be available. The official opening of the Student Pavilion will be at noon.

April 21: Preview Day

Dr. Kathy Murphy will update Ayers campus employees during a State of the College Address at 3:30 p.m. in the Cheaha Center Lecture Hall.

April 26: Don’t Drop It on Alabama

The annual “clean-up” event is being spearheaded by Student Activities. (formerly Clean Home Alabama)

April 27: State of the College Address

Dr. Kathy Murphy will update Cherokee employees during a State of the College Address 3:30 p.m. at Gadsden State Cherokee. Room 130

April 27: Cardinal Arts Journal Breakout Reading and Showcase

Celebrate National Poetry Month AND Community College Month with the CAJ! Attend a showcase reading of original and classic poetry at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 27 in the Allen Hall lobby on the Wallace Drive Campus.

April 28: State of the College Address

Dr. Kathy Murphy will update employees from the East Broad, Wallace Drive and Valley Street campuses during a State of the College Address at 3:30 p.m. in the Science Building Auditorium. The vision for the future of the college.

April 28: "Still Flying High. Together!"

In observance of Administrative Professionals Day and Community College Month. The "Still Flying High. Together!" professional development workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Location and speakers will be announced soon. The deadline to register is Friday, April 22, 2022.

Registration Fee $25 (includes lunch): This is considered professional development and the registration fee can be paid for with a GSCC budget.

April 28: Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce Banquet, 6 p.m., Gadsden State Arena, entertainment: Worth The Wait (as seen on The Voice)
