Check Assignment and Assessment Due Dates Following Imports CSUN Academic Technology

Check Assignment and Assessment Due Dates after you import a course.

One of the easiest things to overlook when you import a course from a previous term into a current or future term, is the due dates on all your Assignments or Assessments. Canvas makes it relatively easy to change the dates of your imported options with a few clicks.

After you have imported the earlier course content, go to the Assignments item on the Course Navigation.

From your course, select Assignments on the left hand Course Navigation.

You will then see all your imported assignments listed with the original due dates. Click on the button with the 3 Vertical Dots that is below the Student View button. From the resulting drop-down list click on “Edit Assignment Dates”

Select the assignment group and find the Edit feature.

On the resulting screen you will be able to edit All the due dates from the 1 screen, which is a much faster way than going into each individual assignment. You can type the date directly into the box or you can click on the calendar icon to pick the date from the calendar.

Edit all imported assignment dates from one screen.

Tips and Tricks

A handy tip is to set the date to something current, and then you can refine the date.

Another thing to help manage assignments is to update the Assignment name to include the term in the name, this accomplishes 2 things:

  1. It makes it easier to identify the term of the assignment in case you use it in future courses
  2. If you need to import more content later in the term, you will not accidentally overwrite previously imported content.

To easily change the name of the assignment, click on the 3 vertical dots to the far right of the assignment name and select Edit.

From the 3 vertical dots, you can rename an assignment without opening up the assignment itself.

You will then be able to change the Assignment name without having to completely open the assignment.
