- Intrigued by South Texas’ weather? Join the national network of 350,000+ trained severe weather spotters as the first line of defense against severe weather. TAMIU will host SKYWARN® training tomorrow, Tuesday, from 1 - 2:30 p.m. This free event is open to all students, faculty and staff, but registration is limited. Visit here for more.
- On Wednesday, get with the beat at the Percussion Ensemble Recital from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the CFPA Recital Hall. Here’s a video with Valerie Naranjo, our guest artist is residence, who will perform with TAMIU students. It’s free of charge and bound to inspire you.
- This Friday, TAMIU’s Fashion Society hosts its first-ever Fashion Show. TAMIU student designers, models, make-up artists, photographers, and stylists will be featured, in addition to local boutiques and stores from 7 – 9 p.m. in Western Hemispheric Trade Center room 111. Tickets are going fast, so get yours here today.
- The great sounds of the internationally renowned performance group Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán are coming this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the CFPA Recital Hall. The concert, “Fiesta y Tradición,” is the capstone event of the 7th Annual International Mariachi Festival April 20 - 21. High school mariachi groups from across Texas take part in workshops with Tecalitlán members. Concert ickets are available online here.
- You can still enjoy the galvanizing images of “Ways of Seeing: One Exhibit, Two Spaces” exhibit, featuring artists and friends Eric Avery, M.D., and Sue Coe, which continues at the CFPA Gallery and the Laredo Center for the Arts. Here’s more.
- TAMIU has been designated a Voter Friendly Campus, one of 258 campuses in 38 states and the District of Columbia by Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. Kudos to Dr. Nicholas Hudson and the SOLE Team.
- TAMIU will host Open Forums for candidates for the position of Vice President for Student Engagement and I encourage participation by all members of the University community. All forums are in Academic Innovation Center (AIC) 126 @ 11:15 a.m.

Rep. Cuellar Announces Nearly $3 Million to Promote Graduate-Level Opportunities for Hispanics at TAMIU
U.S. Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $2,910,420 in federal funding for TAMIU to promote graduate-level opportunities for Hispanics through its Next Level Engineering Project. The Project will expand courses and institutional resources for Hispanic graduate-level students by developing a Master of Science in Systems Engineering and graduate certificates in engineering fields.
San Antonio Area Foundation's Legacy Scholarship Program Recognizes Local Academic Talent
Nearly two dozen talented Webb County students were selected to receive $40,000 each for their upcoming college studies as 2023 San Antonio Area Foundation Legacy Scholarship recipients during a ceremony held Wednesday, April 12 at the University's Center for the Study of Western Hemispheric Trade. The 20 high school juniors took part in a highly competitive application process with a selection committee comprised of Laredo officials and community leaders. The students were chosen as juniors so that they will have ample time and peace of mind going into their senior year to budget college costs, knowing they’ve already secured the Scholarship.
TAMIU Welcomes Psycholinguistics Scholar Dr. Jankowiak for Future Collaborative Efforts
TAMIU recently welcomed Dr. Katarzyna Jankowiak to campus. During her visit, Dr. Jankowiak visited the Brain and Cognition Laboratory, a research endeavor under the auspices of the College of Arts and Sciences’ department of Psychology and Communication. The visit is the first step toward fostering collaborative opportunities between TAMIU and the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, where Jankowiak works as an assistant professor at the Faculty of English, and member of the Psychophysiology of Language and Affect Laboratory.
TAMIU Named a Voter Friendly Campus by NASPA, Campus Vote Project
TAMIU has been designated a Voter Friendly Campus, one of 258 campuses in 38 states and the District of Columbia by Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. The initiative recognizes institutions that have planned and implemented practices that encourage their students to register and vote in the 2022 elections and coming years.

TAMIU to host Earth Day Festivities
We're celebrating Earth Day alongside our partners at Schneider Electric with a day-long observance culminating in the dedication of two new Recycled Benches. Our University community is also invited to volunteer at our Sports Complex Cleanup or take part in an Earth Day Festival. #MaroonIsTheNewGreen
TAMIU Athletics Update
