BrowZine is a tool that supports evidence-based practice by helping you keep up with the current literature in scholarly journals. This resource can be used from your mobile devices, desktop computers, or both!
Getting Started
In a web browser:
For mobile devices:
- Download the BrowZine mobile app from the App Store or Google Play
- If you've used BrowZine previously with the Open Access Library or another institution, you may need to delete and reinstall
- When you open the app for the first time, you'll see a list of schools. Select University of Louisville, then enter your ULink ID and password
Creating your BrowZine account
While you are able to access BrowZine's content through our libraries' subscription, you'll need to sign up for a free personal BrowZine account to sync across devices, curate bookshelves of your favorite journals, set up notifications as new articles are published, and save articles for offline reading from anywhere.
You can go into your Settings to create this account, or you will be prompted to either Login or Sign Up when you first attempt to access My Articles or My Bookshelf. Either way, all you need to do is input your institutional email address and create a password for your account.
Using BrowZine
Navigate using the Browse Subjects menu, or by typing what you are looking for into the search bar.
BrowZine automatically begins populating the Results list with Journals and Subjects as you type a search.
Journal titles are marked with a blue notebook icon, while Subjects are distinguished by a red file drawer.
Selecting a Subject (from the Results of a search or through the Browse Subjects menu) will display the titles and cover art of the journals available in that research domain for you to browse through
When you select a Journal (from your Search Results list or the Browse Subjects menus), you'll be presented with the contents of the most recent issue of that journal. The sidebar on the left allows you to add the journal to My Bookshelf, view other issues of the journal, or browse related subjects.
Use the icons under each article to (from left to right):
- Download the PDF
- Follow the link to read the article in your web browser
- Save the article to My Articles
- Export the citation
- Share the reference link on social media or via email
The journals you save are kept in "My Bookshelf"
- You can organize the journals you save into Bookcases, and further arrange the journals on each bookcase into Shelves.
- Both bookcases and shelves are numbered by default, but you can also rename them to be more descriptive of their contents
- As new issues are published, red icons will appear next to the journal with the number of unread articles waiting for you. If you'd like alerts, you can enable push notifications in your settings.
Articles you save can be found in the My Articles tab
- When you click the file folder icon to save an article, you are prompted to select the collection(s) to which it should be added from your list of collections.
- They default to the General Collection, which you can sort by date added or Journal, and you can also create collections to organize them in other ways, such as by subject, author, or project
