Wilson ITA Coach of the Year

Andres Pedroso from the University of Virginia has been named the 2023 Wilson ITA Head Coach of the Year.

Pedroso, who won his first NCAA Championship as a head coach in 2022, successfully led his team back to the top of college tennis in 2023 as the Cavaliers successfully defended their title to cap off yet another dominant season.

Similarly to last season, Pedroso and the Virginia team hit its stride after the ITA National Team Indoor Championships, winning their final 22 consecutive matches to finish the year 30-4 overall.

The Cavaliers went 12-0 in the ACC for the third straight year and won its third straight ACC tournament crown. Pedroso had three singles players qualify for the NCAA Singles Championship, and one doubles team for the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Since taking out the Virginia program in 2017-18, the three-time ACC Coach of the Year has seen his players earn three ACC Player of the Year awards, four All-America designations, and 18 All-ACC honors with many more accolades being added this season as well.

A Letter From Athletic Director Carla G. Williams

Coach –

Congratulations on being named the Wilson/ITA National Coach of the Year for the second straight year! We are so proud of you, your staff and the young men in your program. It is great to see your peers recognize what we have the opportunity to witness every day: your care and dedication to building and sustaining an extraordinary program that lives out the values of the University of Virginia each day.

Your team’s success is built on a base of humility, selflessness and hard work on and off the courts. Andres, you exemplify and teach these values with great pride and conviction. Our players wear the V-Sabre as proud ambassadors of this University and that is an awesome reflection of their families and your leadership. Not only have they added the 33rd NCAA championship in our school’s history, but they have also done so while posting a 3.5 team GPA this spring.

It was exciting for me to watch your team power through those 22 straight wins to close out the season, but none was sweeter than watching you celebrate with your student-athletes on the courts in Orlando. We admire the brotherhood of Virginia Men’s Tennis.

Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.

Go Hoos!
