Peace Home for Vietnam Family: P4 Club

  • This year P4 under the direction of Erin Sullivan, has been raising money to build a Peace Home in Vietnam.
  • The inspiration of this project came from the sons and daughters of Vietnam War soldiers who lost their lives during the war- both American and Vietnamese- who wanted to build a community around their shared experience of having lost a parent to war.
  • On a visit to Vietnam, some of the 2 Sides Projects members were struck by the ways in which the war has left a legacy of poverty for the Vietnamese people. Creating the Peace Homes initiative was a way to help.
  • For about $3000 USD you can build a home for a Vietnamese family in need.

School Day Timetable Adjustments 5/30-6/2

Instructional Day Change

  • To address busing issues across the district, Cab’s school day will start five minutes later next year.
  • We are shortening each period by a minute to accommodate for this change.
  • The school day will be 7:25-2:10PM.

Master Schedule Considerations

As part of our Continous Improvement Planning over the summer we are looking to explore increasing school day instructional minutes in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math in the middle school master schedule. There are several causes for this potential change:

  • Reading/Math Proficiency: while significant gains have been made since returning from remote/hybrid learning, Reading and Math grade-level proficiency rates need improvement.
  • District Continuity: Cab middle school students currently receive approximately 66% of the time in ELA and Math as compared to the Red Clay Consolidated School District peers.
  • Pacing: As a result of this schedule difference, the ability to effectively cover all the required curricula is challenging for classroom teachers.

  • Friday 6/2 - Color Wars (8th Grade - Pink, 7th Grade - Blue/Teal, 6th Grade - Purple)
  • Field Day on June 5th is a reward for those students who are following our school wide expectations. There will be a dunk tank, inflatable obstacle course, music, and games.
  • Since this is a reward, students were informed on Schoology on May 11th that those students with two or more behavior referrals between May 11th and June 2nd will not participate in Field Day.

LGBTQ+ Pride Month: The Prom Musical Production

  • LGBT Pride Month is a month, typically June, dedicated to celebration and commemoration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride, observed in the Western world.
  • CCSA is progressive in telling the stories of social justice, diversity, and inclusion through the arts.
  • We just completed four performances of The Prom Musical Production. The Prom" is a Broadway musical that tells the story of Emma, a high school student who wants to bring her girlfriend to the prom.
  • When the PTA cancels the prom to prevent same-sex couples from attending, a group of self-absorbed Broadway stars hears about the injustice and decides to champion Emma's cause.
  • Through their journey, they learn about acceptance, love, and the importance of standing up for what is their truth, culminating in a joyous and inclusive prom celebration for all.
