You’re a big dill.

You’ve been working hard all summer long (and really, even before that) to provide nutritious, delicious meals to the students in your area. We want you to get recognized for all your extra efforts!

We are berry excited that it’s time to start thinking about the Turnip the Beet Award!

The USDA established the Turnip the Beet award specifically for summer meal programs that provide high-quality meals to students. As you know, summer meals are critical in the lives of students. You are helping ensure children are healthy even when school is not in session, and ensuring they are ready to learn when they return to school in the fall. Turnip the Beet showcases programs like yours on a national level.

You’re bready for this.

Even though Nebraska summer programs are already going above and beyond for the students in their communities, not a single program received the Turnip the Beet award last year. And it’s simply because no one applied.

Let’s turn this beet around and show up for our state! Not only is it easy to apply, all schools/programs that submit complete applications receive recognition at the bronze, silver or gold level.

Apply this season, pretty peas.

It’s simple to apply:

  • Fill out the application form
  • Be sure to provide the meal documentation (see award instructions for more information)
  • Send to Taylor at taylor.schorsch@nebraska.gov

You butter believe you’re a winner!
