This week we had our final PSHE lessons for the half term. We completed the topic by learning about stereotypes and how these can have a negative impact. As part of our English use and apply session, we looked at some different examples of problems a friend might be having (each relating to one of the aspects we have covered in our lessons.) We then responded to these problems by writing a letter back and giving advice based on what we have learnt over these past weeks. The children gave some great advice! We finished off by re-reading our knowledge organiser and completing a post-assessment to demonstrate all the knowledge we have gained.
English: fables
In English, we have continued our work on fables. We re-read The Tortoise and The Hare, created a class story map, and then worked independently to write a character description of both the Tortoise and the Hare. Some pupils in the class used a thesaurus to broaden their vocabulary.
Spanish
An exciting part of moving into KS2 is that the children now get weekly Spanish lessons on a Thursday! They really enjoy this session with SeƱora Holden. To begin their learning, the children are focusing on the phonics of Spanish to aid their pronunciation of words.
History: The Stone Age
This week we have properly began our history topic about the Stone Age. To try and grasp just how long ago this period was, we spent two lessons focusing on timelines. The first activity was using toilet roll to visualise the length; each square of the toilet roll represented a thousand years. From the images above, you can see just how long it took us to reach the beginning of the period! The next lesson, the children applied their maths knowledge of ordering numbers to try and put the key events of the Stone Age period in order - this is very tricky when going from BC to AD. You can see their paired work on Seesaw.
