Cognos 11.2 Quick Start Guide A brief introduction to the latest version of Cognos

This Guide will provide you with tips on the most commonly used navigation and feature changes in Cognos 11.2. More detailed training resources coming soon.

TIP 1: Login process has changed slightly

Upon loading the new version of Cognos, you will be presented with a Microsoft login screen. Enter your WUSTL email address here. Note: If you were not previously signed in with your WUSTL Key, you will be asked to complete the standard WUSTL Key login page. If you were already signed in with your WUSTL Key, you will be taken to the following step.
You will then see a “Stay signed in?” message. Click the Yes button to stay signed in to Microsoft user accounts.

TIP 2: Main menu now opens with icon

In the previous version, Home, My Content, Team Content, and Recent were located in the left side pane.
Home, Content, and Recent are now found by clicking the main menu icon (aka the “hamburger”).

TIP 3: Content folders open in a full page

Click Content in the main menu.
My Content and Team Content will open as two tabs on a full page.

TIP 4: Display Content in tile or list view

My Content and Team Content display defaults in tile view.
To switch to list view, select the List View icon in the upper right corner.

TIP 5: Search has moved

In the previous version, Search was located in the left menu.
In the new version, Search is located in the upper right-hand corner.

TIP 6: Toggle menu offers more options

The toggle menu now includes the Content folder and items from your Personal menu (if opened), as well as any reports you have open.
If you click on the Content folder from the toggle menu, you will be taken into the last folder you had open.

TIP 7: Reports & folders can now have Descriptions

To add a description to a report or folder, click the ellipses next to the folder name or report name and choose “Edit name and description”.

TIP 8: Robust in-app learning resources

There is now a robust and searchable set of resources available right in the interface using the Learn icon (question mark).

TIP 9: Preferences have moved

General preferences in the previous version were accessed by going to the Personal menu > My preferences.
In the new version, general preferences are now located in the Personal menu under Profile and Settings > Settings tab. This is where you can change your preferred output format (HTML recommended).

TIP 10: View your own permissions

View your own Cognos permissions in the Profile and Settings > Profile tab, then selecting Groups and roles. This is helpful to check if you are not getting data back from a certain data source package or report, or can’t see a certain folder in the Team Content area.
