Sports Wrap-Up Davis Collier and Jonah Pedroza

Football

In Legacy’s first year in the “District of Doom”, the team ended with a 3-7 record. After entering district play 2-1, the varsity football team only won one district game. The team’s 1-6 district record was not enough for a playoff berth, but two teams from the district won State.

The team had ten players receive All-District honors and five honorable mentions. Senior Zach McKinley will continue his career as a preferred walk-on at Oklahoma State University, and junior Landyn Cleveland will join him next year. Seniors Paul Summers II and Oluwafela Oladeinde committed to Evangel University, and seniors Aydan Babaa and Landon Nalley will play at Texas Wesleyan University. Senior James Buckrham will play for Wayland Baptist University.

Baseball

Finishing with a 25-7 overall record and 13-1 district record, baseball secured a first place district finish and made a two round playoff run, losing to Rockwall-Heath in the Area round. The team’s only loss came in a 3-2 loss to Lake Ridge, the second place team in district.

Seniors Dylan Schlaegel and Blake Julius committed to two Division I programs in Dallas Baptist University and Oklahoma State University respectively. Senior Diego Sanchez will continue to play at Ouachita Baptist University and Seniors Parker Ibrahimi and Luke Devasher will play at the junior college level at Midland Junior College and Tyler Junior College.

Boys' Basketball

The boys’ basketball team finished the season with an overall record of 25-10 and a 9-5 district record. This granted a third place finish and a playoff berth, and the team made it four rounds deep in the playoffs before losing to Klein Oak. Seniors Derian Armstrong and Tyler Dozier earned All-District honorable mentions, junior Ahmare Rose and senior Isaiah Manning made the All-District Second Team, and Junior Amir McMillian and senior Jhaden Brown made the All-Region team and First Team All-District. Manning will continue his basketball career next year at TCU, and Brown will play collegiate ball for McLennan Community College.

Volleyball

The Varsity Volleyball team placed 6th in the district this year with a district record of 5-9 and an overall record of 15-22. The girls worked hard but unfortunately didn’t advance to the playoffs this year. Senior Brynn Dowd committed to Arizona State University to play sand volleyball.

Boys' Soccer

The Varsity Boys Soccer team ended this year with a 3-11 district record and a 3-18-2 overall record, leaving them 7th in the district. Unfortunately this record was not enough to make it to the playoffs this year.

Girls' Soccer

With a district record of 11-2-1 and an overall record of 12-11-2 the Girls Varsity Soccer team placed 3rd in the district this year. The girls battled their way to the playoffs were they took a strong win and the first round, and unfortunately their season ended with a close loss to Wylie East in the second round.

Track

Boys: The Varsity Boys Track Team had a solid playoff run this year. Placing 6th in District they were able to compete in Area where they placed 8th. Finally their journey ended in Regionals placing 29th among steep competition.

Girls: The Girls Varsity Track team had a competitive season. The girls placed 5th in District, advancing them to Area. They battled through Area, placing 8th, and unfortunately they were not able advance to Regionals.

Powerlifting

Three members of the powerlifting team made the regional meet. Junior Jonah Pedroza placed 7th at Regionals with a 1395 pound total. Senior Zachary McKinley placed 5th with a 1420 pound total. Junior Crystal Hernandez earned a spot at the state meet with a 955 total. Hernandez did not place at state.

Tennis

This year the Legacy Varsity Tennis team ended their fall season with a 6-3 district season landing them 3rd in the district. The tennis team fought for a playoff run that ended in the second round. During the spring season, Jantzen Redwine won the district championship in boys singles. Together Jacob Hoeth and Austin Galley won the district championship in boys doubles. The three moved on to play in the regional tournament in Waco, where they all lost in the first round.

Softball

Ending the season with a 22-14-1 year record and a 10-4 district record. Through their hard work the Legacy Varsity Softball team landed 3rd place in the district. The girls got a run at the playoffs where they beat Harker Heights 2-1 in the series, unfortunately their season ended in Wylie where they lost to the Pirates 0-2.

Cross Country

After placing 3rd in the district meet, the Boys Varsity Cross Country team ended 14th in the regional meet. Star runner Toby Eaton ran a personal best of 15:24.9 this year. Toby placed 1st in the district and 7th in regionals.

The Girls Varsity Cross Country team placed 4th in the district, unfortunately not enough to advance to regionals. Although they did not place high enough to advance to the regional meet, Legacy had 2 girls, Ava Crisafulli and Monica Sanchez, place top 10 in the district.
