As a little girl who grew up watching animations, I dreamed of becoming someone like a heroine. Positive and witty, someone who enjoys every moment of life.

I think when I put on these uniforms, I am the closest to my ideal self. I like the school life described in the anime. Going to class with friends, participating in club activities, hanging out with friends after school. I also like scenes such as the beach, the sunset and the streets. I wish that one day I can travel to their world to escape the troubles of the real world.
我认为当我穿上JK制服的时候 我是最接近我理想中的自己 很喜欢日剧和动漫里描述的校园生活 一起跟朋友上课 去社团活动 和放学一起回家或玩耍 也很喜欢动漫里的场景 类如：海边 日落 和草坪 梦想自己有一天可以穿越到二次元 逃离现实世界的烦恼
I chose to photograph in empty places because I imagined that there would be a door in the corner leading to the world I longed for. And so I want to focus on what I am doing in the current scene: as if someone is watching me "searching" for the door.
当我在计划这个作品时 我选择在空旷的地方取景 是因为我幻想在无人的角落里 会有一扇门通向我向往的世界 我想把重心点放在 我在当前的场景做什么 所以很多照片都是远景 仿佛是有人在看我如何 “寻找” 那扇门
The tone of the whole series is cooler because it implies how I am bound in real life but still look forward to the sense of freedom after escaping from the real world.
整个系列色调偏冷 是因为我个人喜欢偏清冷感的照片 以及冷色调更符合我的主题 被束缚在现实生活 但期待着逃离后的自由感
Zilin is currently a junior at The Brooklyn Latin School. As she’s taking an elective in visual art, she discovered her interest in photography. She feels that modern beauty standards keep people away from cameras, as they consider themselves not photogenic. Inspired by many fashion and portrait photographers on social media, she wishes to make everyone feel more self-confident through her photos.
This project was created in Future Imagemakers in the NYU Department of Photography and Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts in Spring 2023.
